INT: PHILIP'S ROOM - NEXT MORNING

Philip sits up in bed sleepily. He yawns, frowns, then climbs out onto the floor and disappears into the bathroom.

CUT TO:

Philip reemerges from the bathroom, now freshly showered. Towel around hips he walks towards the wardrobe. His foot kicks against one of last night's pizza boxes. He stares down at it, frowning, then refocuses his attention on the wardrobe.

CUT TO:

Philip, now dressed, opens the small fridge in the kitchenette. Looks inside. Then sighs and shuts the fridge without getting anything out of it first. Instead he switches a kettle on and puts a single coffee filter into a mug.

CUT TO:

Shot of Philip picking up after last night. He takes the bag of empty beer cans and the pizza boxes and exits. Re-enters empty-handed. Throws napkins in trash. Pops the disc drive and takes out the movie disc and puts it in its case. Then he stops, with the case, staring at it with a downcast expression. Eventually he places the case on a bookshelf, laying it down slowly and thoughtfully.

CUT TO:

Philip sits down with his coffee at the desk. He opens his laptop, cracks a couple of books. Makes a few notes, then tapers off and ends up staring into space.

CUT TO:

A loud knock on the door. Philip visibly jumps, then gets up slowly and goes to answer it. Outside is Jessup.

JESSUP

Hey, Lett.

(frowns)

What's up with you, man, you look like crap.

He steps inside uninvited and pushes the door to behind him. It swings shut but doesn't latch. Philip grimaces.

PHILIP

Gee, thanks. Did you want anything other than to criticize?

Jessup shrugs.

JESSUP

Wanted to know if you wanted to discuss that project proposal. I know it doesn't have to be ready for three weeks, but...

PHILIP

(frowns)

You could have just called me.

JESSUP

I did. You didn't answer.

PHILIP

(embarrassed)

Oh.

He turns and takes his mobile from the desk.

PHILIP

Ah, I turned the sound off last night. I'd forgotten. Sorry, man.

JESSUP

(dismissively)

Whatever. So what do you -

He's interrupted by a second loud knock on the door, which swings open. Nathan stands in the doorway.

NATHAN

Look, Philip, I -

He stops as he catches sight of Jessup.

NATHAN

Oh. Sorry.

Jessup stares at Nathan, then at Philip.

JESSUP

Okay, you're busy today. You should just have said.

PHILIP

Hey, I didn't -

(to Nathan)

What do you want?

NATHAN

I just want to talk, okay? Can we do that?

(with a long look at Jessup)

In private maybe?

PHILIP

You could have just called.

NATHAN

I tried. About seven times. You still got it on silent?

PHILIP

(embarrassed)

Um. Yeah. I forgot. Sorry.

Jessup looks distinctly uncomfortable.

JESSUP

Look Lett, we can just do this some other time, yeah? You just... do whatever. See ya.

He heads out through the still-open door. Philip stares after him.

NATHAN

Um, Philip?

Philip turns his head. Nathan looks uncomfortable.

NATHAN

If this is a bad time, we can do this later.

PHILIP

No, never mind.

He kicks the door shut, making sure the latch catches properly, then turns to face Nathan.

PHILIP

So? What d'you want to talk about?

NATHAN

You know what this is about, Philip.

Philip remains silent.

NATHAN

Last night.

Philip closes his eyes briefly.

NATHAN

I really am sorry about what I did.

PHILIP

Are you?

He turns away and grabs his coffee mug. Takes a sip, grimaces.

PHILIP

Ew. Cold.

NATHAN

Philip...

PHILIP

So why did you do it if you were just gonna turn around and be sorry about it straight away?

NATHAN

(loudly)

Because...

He takes a deep breath.
