Never! Let the other genres cower before our mighty... eh... mafia of two.

No Mafia involved here, but I'm planning to write an odd little noir-esque serial-killer thing.

RE: Thriller/Noir-ish Types, Let's Talk!

Mine doesn't actually involve the mafia either (...or does it? Giant Earthworm Emperors don't have opposable thumbs... so they MUST have minions of some kind) but more of a schizoid-alternate reality shift-political issues taken in funny ways-all headed by my heroic blind hero (except he's not really blind, at least, most of the time) and wrap that all up in Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and you have my idea so far. I'm not sure whether I want to make it funny or dark. I might do a bit of both...

RE: Thriller/Noir-ish Types, Let's Talk!

Mine doesn't involve the mafia, but it will be a one location, dark setting and the story takes place over the course of one evening. It will be sort of a murder mystery in reverse. But that's all I'm willing to say for now.

What are some of your fave noir-ish, thrillery films so that we can all get into the right mindset for our projects??

I've got the Mafia. For sure. And speakeasys.

I liked um... The missing and the prestige.

RE: Thriller/Noir-ish Types, Let's Talk!

You're not the only one writing a thriller/mystery but the indentities of those who are also writing these stories will not be revealed till the third act, and definately not unitl we have a body somewhere! anyone who says they are writing a thriller mystery before then is actually manipulating you for their own ends, except for me, or am i a red herring??????

RE: Thriller/Noir-ish Types, Let's Talk!

College-set noir, baby! I never thought I would like the genre until I saw Double Indemnity at the beginning of the year, now I'm obsessed with Billy Wilder, AND noir! Now I really regret not taking "Nietzsche to Noir" last year at my school.

I'm using Brick as real inspiration as well, although hopefully mine will be slightly more realistic, character-wise - though I love how stylized that one is. What are your inspirations?

RE: Thriller/Noir-ish Types, Let's Talk!

My main influence so far is Dark City and the Noir game on Whose Line Is It Anyway? It should be interesting to write...

On the non-mafia bandwagon...kinda

Well, the mafia might play a slight role in a back story, but it definitely isn't a mafia script.

It does have doctors, biological weapons, faked deaths, FBI raids, jaded wives and double crosses, though.

"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."
