Just want to welcome y'all

My name is Shawn (jazzyjinx) and I am the ML for the Georgia area and I'd like to welcome everyone to ScriptFrenzy 2008.

I'd love to hear from all of you. There are over 70 of you subscribed to this Regional Forum but I've only seen four of you post on the "Where Are You? Who Are You?" post.

So let me tell you a little about myself: I live north of Atlanta and have been writing since I was a teenager, though not yet published. I've participated in NaNo and ScriptFrenzy (see below). I finished last years ScriptFrenzy project just two weeks ago, though I'm now working on the second draft, and I'm thrilled with the results. Without ScriptFrenzy, I don't think I would have ever gotten as far as I had with my first script.

Writing has always come easily to me but writing a script was the biggest challenge thus far. Last years script was a sequel to an early 90's movie. This years script is a completely original idea so I expect this one to be an even bigger challenge.

So let's hear from you. Who are you? Where are you? Done ScriptFrenzy or NaNo yet? Winner?

And I'd like to plan a Kick-Off event for Saturday, March 29th, just a get together to get to know each other and get familiar with this thing we call ScriptFrenzy.

RE: Just want to welcome y'all

I was wondering whether you'd be back this year, as the ML page doesn't have your name on it yet.

Anyway, a kickoff party on the 29th sounds great. Shall we decide a location now or wait until more Frenziers trickle in and see where everyone is?

RE: Just want to welcome y'all

My name is Erin, and I have only been writing for the past three years, though the idea has been in my head for the past seven. Nov. 2007 was my first NaNo, and while I did not win, it was definitely an amazing experience. This is my first ScriptFrenzy, and I think it should be interesting. I sent an email about this to my Theatre Appreciation teacher from last semester mentioning that he should let his students know.

Other than that, I have never actually written a script before, or anything close to it, so I'm hoping things run smoothly enough.

As for the Kick-Off, I'd like to join y'all, but I live about as close as you can get to the FL-GA border... Like six hours away from Atlanta. I will however, be with y'all in spirit. ^_^

Hi Erin,
We're not limited to Atlanta! A lot of Georgia writers may be in the metro Atlanta area, but that doesn't stop you from coordinating write-ins closer to you, especially if you know people in your area who are participating. Besides, not all of us can travel six hours to a write-in. That's six hours we could be writing! :)

RE: Just want to welcome y'all

The only problem is that I don't know of anyone near here who is participating. I posted a thread for my area and haven't gotten any replies yet. However, there is still about two weeks until the Frenzy begins, so more people may show up.

And that is very true. Six hours can be a decent amount writing time. ^_^

Hey, Shawn, I'm giving it a try this year. Where were you planning the Kick-Off on the 29th?

RE: Just want to welcome y'all

Well, I'm Heather, and I'm still not sure if I'm actually going to try the challenge this year or not... with a newborn and forums moderation to wrangle, I'm not sure I'll have time!

But, I'm in Macon, have been doing NNWM since 2002, and have served as a NNWM ML for going on 6 years, although last year was my last year serving NNWM in that capacity. Now I get a shiny staff badge. ;)

RE: Just want to welcome y'all

Thanks, Shawn! I didn't get into this until yesterday (Sunday, March 30), but I hope maybe I can meet some of my fellow Georgia writers during the month. I live on the NW side of metro Atlanta, just inside 285. From my apartment I can walk down to the Chattahoochee where there are some trails; get a lot of ideas on a long walk.

Edited to add: Thanks so much for spelling y'all correctly.
