What type of music will you be writing to while you are creating? |
I love to listen to classic old instrumental jazz while I am writing. I believe it enhances the experience, especially inspirational are those long and soulful piano solos.
COMMENTS PLEASE!

I listen to whatever I feel like. Sometimes it's J-Pop (Puffy Ami Yumi, Utada Hikaru, Mai Takahashi), sometimes popular music (Sarah Barielles, Three Doors Down, Kelly Clarkson), sometimes country (Gretchen Wilson, Sugarland, Taylor Swift). Like I said, whatever I fell like. My music doesn't even have to match the mood of what I'm writing.

RE: Why Instrumental Jazz is my ideal alternative! |
"It's never too late to become what you might have been."
- George Eliot
Writing can often drain down my mental resources (Limited As They Are) so that I am in need of taking a break and doing something different, even if for a short while, almost anything will work for me for a short time.
Unfortunately so many things have consequences like: a NAP (can eat up a good part of the writing day) SNACKING (I already have a weight problem) TAKING A WALK (time constraints, weather, time it takes to get back into the rhythm of the story) GAMING this one is really, really bad, a waste of valuable writing time.)
When I listen to instrumental jazz on the radio station, for example: XM-ch 70 Real Jazz. I feel refreshed enough to stay with my writing longer and I get more accomplished in a writing day. It's TRUE Try It!~ John G. ;-)

techno like PPk gets the job done pretty well. nevertheless, stuff like sonic youth, smashing pumpkins, beach boys, nat king cole, moby and darkstar jams (great soundscapes from all of them) typically get the most play time.

I tend to listen to music that will feel... "in place", I suppose, of the storyline I'm creating. As my Screnzy script will be set in a psuedo-Victorian age, there's a lot of steampunk music (Vernian Process, Abney Park, the Steampunk Spectacular and Clockwork Cabaret podcasts, and Emilie Autumn to an extent), but it's also a fantasy script, so there's some New Age music (like Loreena McKennitt, Secret Garden, and Adiemus), some television soundtracks (Doctor Who, mainly, because Murray Gold has some beautifully sprawling songs), some classical tracks, and then some Dropkick Murphys (Irish-American punk rock) and Clutch (jazz and blues-inspired heavy rock) just to give it all a bit of a kick. :3 Of course, this makes for a fairly weird looking playlist, but, eh. XD

I created a playlist on my iTunes called "bloody brill writing" that I use. It's a...pretty eclectic blend.
The Shoebox Project soundtrack is awesome, too, for any HP or SBP fans.

I have a fairly eclectic mix of 102 songs ranging from Celtic instrumentals to country music to oldies to soundtracks. It's all music I really like, so I don't get frustrated and stop writing because I have to switch songs.
