Making those pictures move

I know this month is probably going to be reserved for scriptwriting. Nevertheless, I'm giving some thought to what's happening next.

How are people planning to make thier scripts into actual video? What are you going for, and how do you intend to get it done?

I personally am indecisive. I'm torn between a 3D CGI affair (like Final Fantasy: Advent Children) and more traditional 2D cartoon (prolly with anime influences.)

The problem I have with 3D is it's incredibly long-winded, demands lots of detail, and I really don't much like the whole process. I'm much happier drawing in 2D, but I don't want to churn out something indistinguishable from all those other animes I haven't actually watched.

As for how people are intending to go about this, can you recommend some decent software? I'm using (trying to use) Blender for the 3D stuff. For 2D, I'm desperately looking around for decent programs. There's something called Synfig that looks promising, but it's still in its infancy and anyway I can't get it to install. Adobe Flash is possibly an option, although that's annoying for me because I have to go digging around for a computer running Windows.

I've not actually done this before, and anticipate a horde of unforeseen complications, from lip-synching to file format problems. If anyone has done this before - what are your thoughts?

In summary, I suppose, this thread is for telling everyone what you're doing and giving advice that might save others time and frustration.

And if you're gunning for something different - old school stop-motion, flick-book, plasticine, or any other interesting angles - please let us know.

RE: Making those pictures move

I'm afraid I don't know a darned thing about animation--even my stick figures get laughed at regularly--but as for how I'm planning to get mine to move: I'm going to submit mine to the BBC as a television movie. They actively encourage unsolicited manuscripts there, even from people overseas. Check 'em out here.

I do also no nothing about animation :-( Sorry. But, I prefer 2D to 3D, I also think you should choose the one you are most comfortable with using your idea towards.

I'm thinking about sending mine in to BBC, also. Just to see what happens

RE: Making those pictures move

Looks like lots of people are sending it off to the BBC :D I might do, if I think it's good enough after a lot of reworking. Just to get feedback more then anything (if it catches their attention, of course.)Other than that, I might use it for my media coursework next year. We have to make a trailer for a film or TV show, so it will mean I have the advantage of a script to use.
