Musical Play vs. Musical Films

You know, I came into Screnzy this year all confident I was going to write an action flick and then I, um, decided not to. :D I'll tell you what I AM writing, though.

This guy, he's in love with his ex-gf, who's currently dating his bff Jill. I mean, not Jill, lol sry, his BFF Sebastian. Yeah.
Anyway, she dies, but everybody is convinced she's alive except for the MC, Tony. And he's kind of like, "WHAT THE HECK GUYS." And has to prove she died, in order to try and make everybody...sane again. Or something. I've got some kinks to work out.

It's supposed to be a dark comedy, but who knows.

Anyway, I wanted to ask:

Do you think that would work better as a play or film?

What are the benefits of writing a musical play vs. a musical film?

I think I might go for a musical film, though I'm not entirely sure why. Help pls?

PS
TOMORROW.

RE: Musical Play vs. Musical Films

Musicals are great on stage and screen, and I like both. What you could do is write a stage play first and then convert it into film later.

RE: Musical Play vs. Musical Films

My biggest challenge when writing a stage play last year was the setting - I had to figure out ONE place where everything happened (or one very generic place for things to happen, to make for easy set changes).

It sounds to me like your musical will need varied sets (I'm imagining multiple adventures for your MC as he tries to prove the girl's death), then make it a film musical. If everything will take place mostly on one set (or one set for the first act, another set for the second act), then go for a stage musical.
