Oy!

Hey everyone,

How is everyone progressing now that we're half way through the month?

I'm doing a heck of a lot better than I thought. I origionaly thought I was going to write a mini series of three episodes but it might have to be five episodes, so that I can round out the storyline.

I don't know about the rest of you but I'm having a blast! I'm THIS CLOSE to a hundred pages and am having an ABSOLUTE blast!

My script is so different from what I thought it would be which is all part of the fun. I'm just letting the story write itself and it's so good to be writing again!

How is everyone else doing? Good, bad, fabulous? I can't believe we're already half way through!

Cheers,
Jamieson

RE: Oy!

When I started out the month, I was doing a stage play. In finished it in about 43 pages, so I started doing episodes for a cartoon based on a novel I never finished writing. ^_^

I'm having a blast. Even after I reach 100 pages, I'm going to keep going and try to get as much of the story changed to script form as possible. I'm actually enjoying it enough that I might keep going with it, even when the month comes to an end.

RE: Oy!

I'm overwriting. Wildly.

I'm in a rare place. I like the people I'm writing about. I like the relationships between the characters and the unexpected complexity that's already appeared -- and this is the pilot for crying out loud!

The overwriting doesn't freak me out like it used to. Even if I don't use the scene, I'm listening to the characters talk to each other and I'm learning how they relate. My main character, Arnie, is beginning an epic journey across the country and eventually to the Middle East. He is beginning this journey with an angel who has taken the form of his dead girlfriend. Simple conversations, even the bits of business that spring from the conversations, take on two or three different layers of meaning. It is far easier to go back through the script and trim, delete and move scenes than it is to underwrite!

This is one of the few writing projects I've ever gone into where I'm having fun every step of the way. Even the rare moments of writer's block are fun!

RE: Oy!

Well, seeing as I had irregular, unreliable computer access for the whole month until now...I'm still only about 8 pages in.

But I knew that was going to happen, and I knew I'd have this week of doing absolutely nothing (well, y'know, aside from exams, but those don't count). So I worked out some calculations and I figure if I write about 15 pages a day for the 5 days of complete freedom until my next exam, that'll push me up to about 85 pages, leaving me a week of more exams and more unreliable computer access to pound out the last 15 pages.

I think it's doable. I know all my characters, I know my whole story, I know what I want to do. I just need to have no life for the next 5 days. :)

RE: Oy!

I'm doing pretty well, thanks!

I started out thinking I'd write a pilot and the first ep, but the pilot story is just way too long so I think it's turning into a two or three-parter, kind of like the BSG miniseries maybe, I don't know, but it seems to be working. I know where I'm going, I'm able to jump around the script and I like a lot of the stuff I'm coming up with. Fighting off the indie comedy plot bunnies like crazy but managing to stay in my epic sci-fi zone.

I'm aiming to get the whole opening/pilot story done by the beginning of May, which means I'll probably end up with more than 100 pages. I really just want to round it all off and have a complete script for once!

Good luck, everyone :)
