Death by Horse

Is it possible to accidentally kill someone with a warhorse?
Note: No one is riding the horse. It gets out of its pasture and runs someone over. The horse is not doing it on purpose.

RE: Death by Horse

I'm no expert or anything, but I think so. Depending on how big the horse and person are.

RE: Death by Horse

I know you can get trampled by a horse running you over and breaking your back/neck or something. So I'm pretty sure it's possible.

RE: Death by Horse

I think you'd have to be pretty unlucky not to be able to get out of the way of a reasonably placid warhorse and be trampled to death by a single one of them.

But warhorses were, as I'm sure you are aware, very short but incredibly stocky things which weren't bred to get 7-stone jockeys to the winning post quickly, but a knight in armour across countries at walking pace.

Could it knock someone into something? Or could it knock someone over who fell against something? I suppose broken ribs could puncture a lung.

Horses generally head into ground they can see in advance is clear (they don't watch where they are putting their feet) so if your warhorse were travelling at a bit of a lick, and someone got knocked underneath, kicked in the head...

I think I could be convinced that an unlucky person could die, yes. I think a kick in the head by a scared, running warhorse would seem possible and believable.

RE: Death by Horse

If the horse was scared by something, yes, easily. It's easyto get trampled, or even trapped by a horse against the fence and crushed.

RE: Death by Horse

If you're asking if a horse can trample somebody to death, then, yes, easily. If he's a real warhorse -- a courser or destrier -- then he's probably a full stallion, bred for both strength and aggression, and trained to fight. At the same time, he'd probably be too well-disciplined to go wandering on his own, unless something like a fire made him flee the stable or pasture.

RE: Death by Horse

kat-V (aka my writing partner) I did finish my half of the script so you really have no reason to kill me with a horse...
right?

RE: Death by Horse

I did too listen!!! But isn't there a saying "art mimics life"? (Or did I just make that up for convenience's sake?...)
