Crazed Writting Ephinies

I was reading Farinhite 451 for school and then I read the note from Chris Batty and then I got this crazed sort of ephiniy or however you spell it. I'd like to try and recieve some thoughts on this and any add ins that you might have. I hope to pollish this up sometime later but right now I have vocab to work on and I already spent a tad bit too much time on typing up this ephininy thing. So...Just tell me what you think and give construtive critisms and what not. Also, you are more then welcome to post your own views on writting.

Writing is a cross between parenthood and a journey. Each time you write words, you are given the special privilege to delve into the mystical world that has hidden itself from humanity. In this place, you meet your characters, your children, who tell you their stories. They are not slave to you. You are slave to them as they force you to write out each letter. It's not as horrible as it sounds though as these stories are so wonderful that you have to write them down. It's like you form some kind of partnership. You take these characters, your children, and slowly and carefully, you lead one another down the journey that all wonderful stories are born from. There are always going to be your rough patches. But in the end, you'll love your characters as much as they love you. They are a part of you. There is really no real way to describe the way that writers work. How the whole process happens. It just does. And you are draged along for the wondeful ride.

RE: Crazed Writting Ephinies

Wow....bejeezus, that was deep. I've never had much on an affinidity for my characters because no matter how I write them, they always start acting really whining and doing things I don't want them to do. Like when my secondary female character died on me. That was not good. But you obviously have a very special bond with your characters and that seems to help you. Hope I can acheive such a level of nirvana some day. Great job, keep writing!

RE: Crazed Writting Ephinies

I do have that kind of bond with my characters. After all, they've been an inseparable part of my life since 1992! They know me so well, they can actually write themselves! And so even though I frequently relied on scenes I'd written as early as 10 years ago, my characters guided my through writing even the rough spots in my script. And that's why it turned out so well. This is my stunning epiphany, and I shall share it.

RE: Crazed Writting Ephinies

Well, they do act up sometimes. Like the time when one of my fanfiction charecters announced that he was gay...Which was odd because that had NOTHING to do with the story what so ever.

But yah...I like to think that I have a bond between my charecters. This doesn't always work out though. For example, NaNo 07, I had (and still have) a pretty good bond with my charecters. Normally, they all kinda come out all...Well...Their personalites become all messed up and stuff...But that time...I thought that they all came out pretty well. I didn't win...But I was pretty impressed at the results and hope to actually FINISH the thing someday...However, SF, even though I was actually able to be at the START instead of joining half-way thru...Nothing came out right. My muse, Moon-Kunoichi, quit on me. I gained two charecters about half way thru but then my writting partner got writter's block and I caught it. I really only got about 30 pages but I did so much work on my sister's SF adaption of her NaNo, that I added in some of her page count to mine. Despite the fact that you say that you have problems with your charecters, you are certainly able to work with them. My only advice is to try and listen to some of their ideas. They aren't always that bad.

I have to agree with you there, Jernberg. The older charecters are always the best 'cause they are truely the ones that you have the deepest bonds with.

RE: Crazed Writting Ephinies

Wow. I hate when the Muse bails out on you. Mine (she hasn't yet given herself a cool name like Moon-Kunoichi; she'll have to do that in a dream, like my anima did many years ago) played hard to get when I was trying to do NaNoFiMo, JanNoWriMo, FebNoWriMo, and NaNoEdMo on my '07 NaNoWriMo novel, Bad Company, which has some of the same characters as Spanner but 8-10 years younger (it takes place over 2 1/2 years starting in 2006), and finish a first draft. This month it was exactly the opposite: I started slow, keeping a total page count of 1 for the first week and a half, searching desperately for a way to unblock the stalled Bad Company as it was interfering with my writing Spanner. Then when I found it -- let's just say a popular yuri manga trope turned out to have a basis in not just otaku fantasy but real life as well -- it was like a bomb burst in my brain, unblocking my creativity and unleashing my imprisoned Muse. Finally I was able to unleash her on my script and defeat my worst enemy, procrastination. And now she won't let go of me! I prostrate myself before her and gently beg her to help me with my novels again, but she simply says, "Not till I'm done with Spanner. I've got five issues to finish before I can get back to your novels."

Well, I hope you can get Moon-Kunoichi back on your side and start working on your manga again. You could also look for something that can unblock you, too: a key that will unlock the proverbial door so you can start writing again.

Now I've got to get myself back to the drawing table, or my Inner Artist will get more annoyed than he already is...

RE: Crazed Writting Ephinies

Actually, the whole name thing was pretty weird. I was drawing a picture for inspiration, which turned into a comic, and then on the sign that my inner self was holding read: "My muse, Moon-Kunoichi...." And that became the name.

Anyways, thanks for the advice and good luck dealing with your own Muse and your Inner Artist.
