welcome to the frenzy |
Hey Seattle Screnzies, it's that time of year again.
No, I don't mean spring-cleaning. Or tax time. And no, it's not time to come out of hibernation and enjoy the sun (please ignore the beautiful weather today, your regularly scheduled rain and possibly snow will resume shortly.)
It's time to ignore ALL of those (well, maybe except for taxes, don't want to go to debtors prison) because it's time to write a screenplay! (or various other script of your choosing)
This is our third year doing this, and I hope to see a lot of familiar faces and new blood around the forums. Whether you're returning triumphant, returning less-than-triumphant, completely new to this whole mess, or you sold your screenplay for ten million dollars and moved to Hollywood, glad to have you here, and hope you have as much fun as I have over these last years in this crazy adventure that is script writing.
For those of you new to the frenzy, my name is JD (aka faits) and I'm a third-year ML here for Seattle (and environs!) and I don't really consider myself a screenwriter. Like many of you I came to this from nanowrimo not really knowing the ins and outs of screenwriting (other than some creative writing classes in high school and college), but after two years I think I've got a pretty clear idea of what works and what doesn't, and I'm approaching things from a slightly different tack this time around (more on that later.) Feel free to hit me up with any questions or concerns you might have.
Remember:
30 days + 100 pages + ??? = FAME AND FORTUNE
Well maybe not. But who needs fame and fortune when thirty days of frantic writing will suffice?

RE: welcome to the frenzy |
I'm still stuck in Bremerton as always, but this time I'm adapting my '07 NaNo novel Bad Company, currently under revision during EdMo, into both movie and graphic novel scripts! I have to do both, or I'll stop early, considering how I write scripts at blazing speed, which astonished me last year even when I used a VBA-heavy Word scripting template almost designed to slow your scripting down enough to make you lose Script Frenzy. I wrote 171 pages of manga script despite that severe annoyance. This year, I'm using Celtx 2.0, which I'm downloading as I write this.
And if both those scripts aren't enough, I have another movie and a complete rewrite of last year's Spanner script waiting in the wings...

RE: welcome to the frenzy |
I'm from Spokane but didn't see a region for that unlike in NaNoWrimo. This is my first Frenzy and last '08 was my first NaNo. I don't know what I'll do my script on. I didn't even know about Frenzy until today. I just downloaded Celtx.
Could someone give me any tips for Frenzy as a newcomer here?

Hello.
I'm in Seattle, and I'll be taking part. Probably.
Normally I need write-in's to stay motivated. It sounds like everyone is fairly spread around, though.

I'm in the no-man's-land called "moving at the end of the month," but I'll still be in the Seattle area when all's done. I tried my hand a SF last year, but failed miserably. I'm just sadist enough to try again.
Here's to The End.

This is my first Script Frenzy as well, though I did do NaNo this past November. I figured if I could get through that I can manage here. :)

I'm from the plat. :)
I spent the last five months working with a bunch of kids at my local theatre writing a musical. I have an inch-high stack of how-to-write-a-play reading material, and I'm pretty confident I can at least get something started. I got my idea from an artical I saw in the newspaper, and I'm SUPER excited!

RE: welcome to the frenzy |
I'm in Shoreline. I recently signed up for NaNo, and didn't know how I was going to wait ALL the way until November. When I saw this, at first I thought, a script? Nah. Then I thought, why the heck not? I wrote a script once, in junior high (never mind how long ago that was). It was kinda fun. I think it had vampires in it. If only I would have pursued that... Well, anyway, this sounds fun and challenging. I have no idea what I'll be writing (except that it will probably be a movie script), but that has rarely stopped me before.

RE: welcome to the frenzy |
I'm in Redmond.
This will be my first year with Script Frenzy, so we'll see how it goes. I've been writing in NaNo for a few years now, and have really enjoyed it. I enjoy letting my brain metaphorically puke into MSWord to write stories, poems, just anything to clear my mind from all the jumble and voices.
I haven't fully decided which of my story ideas I'm going to use, and what script it will be. So far I know it'll either be a TV series or comic book.
It's a pleasure to meet you all and join your ranks.

RE: welcome to the frenzy |
Hey, I'm a newbie here :) New not just to SF but also to Seattle (well, since mid-September). I just did NaNo for the first time last November. I'm in the u-district. I'd love to meet up with other Screnzies but without a car I'm kind of limited on location and willingness to travel far.
I just hope I don't epically fail at SF since I've never done any screenwriting before.

RE: welcome to the frenzy |
This is my third year doing Script Frenzy, although I think I will be doing a graphic novel (for the first time ever). So I'm excited about doing something new! I've been doing NaNoWriMo since 2004, but so far I have never particpated in write-ins and would like to start this year. I'm limited to locations within bus-range of Wallingford, although I work in Bellevue.

RE: welcome to the frenzy |
This is my first time doing NaNoWriMo or ScriptFrenzy so I'm kinda nervous xD
But my best friend wrote a novel for NaNoWriMo last november and in january I decided I wanted to next november... ONLY NOVEMBER IS SO FAR AWAY~
So I saw this and decided I should make my best friend help em along in writing a script Dx and man is it complex... >.> I'm trying to work how I'm supposed to do it, but the examples are all not working, and I'm an example needing kinda girl. But I really hope I force myself to actually spit out 100 pages xD

RE: welcome to the frenzy |
Hi, I'm doing script frenzy for the first time this year. I really like the idea of the supportive environment and some structure/deadlines to get me writing. Would love to hook up for some write-ins. I live in North Seattle and I work in Bellevue. Just read the section on "cheats", now it seems more doable. :)

RE: welcome to the frenzy |
Hey all, first timer for Script Frenzy. (I was an unsuccessful NaNoWriMo participant in 2008). I'm a pretty fast writer (it would take me 45 minutes or so to get a day's quota for NaNoWriMo) but that bit me in the ass, because I let myself get way behind thinking it would be easy to make it up...not so easy to make up 30,000 words in a week. So my goal for Script Frenzy is just to stay on top of my daily & weekly goals.
Happy writing!
