The Traditional Smackdown

It's the start of March, which can only mean one thing: the start of preparation for April. For some regions this might mean playing around with characters, plots, settings, and other things of such a nature. Sure, these are all very important things to have, but we are Melbourne, and these things come naturally to us. To remind a Melbourne writer that they need to think of these things is like reminding a cow that they need to do a lot of digesting. It's just pointless, really, because we're already too good at it.

Which brings me to the real point of preparation: the smackdown. Who out there, in the big wide land of Frenzy, needs to be on the receiving end of said smackdown? Is there an individual who has been getting a little bit smug about their effort last year? Has a friend moved to a new city, and decided that now is a good time to being their writing challenge career, now that the count wont go towards Melbourne's tally? We can take that region. You know we can.

So, Melbourne, let the nominations begin.

Australia-New Zealand -- Australia -- Melbourne

I'm nearly there!

I'm currently sitting at 95 pages.

At midnight, 9 hours ago, I was at 77.

I have an hour until I leave to go to town, and have two massive scenes left to write.

I haven't slept in 17 hours after sleeping for 12 hours.

Can I finish Screnzy in the next hour (Y/N?)

(I know everyone's asleep/at church/at work/busy, but I thought I'd post this anyway :) I'm so excited!)

Inspire me!

*waves*

I'm still sitting on 34 pages.
I haven't written anything on it since Saturday.
So, now, I'm about 20 pages behind where I should be.

Is anyone else getting this? How are you staying inspired? Help!

Newbie to Screnzy!

Hi everyone!

I'm really excited to be doing Screnzy, and NaNo in November, and meeting everyone else who's slogging through it, write write writing. I don't really know many people who are determined and dedicated to their writing, and I've met some fantastic people on here already, so...well, I'm glad to know you, and hope you're all keeping up with where you want to be so far.

I figured 3.5 pages a day (I started April 3) would get me to the finish line, but I'm up to page 19, so so far, I'm happy.

However do expect a totally stressed out Sairz at the end of the month...when all of my assignments are due also.

When I get back to my own computer, look forward to meeting you IRC.

Daylight Savings!

Yep! We're back one hour as of now! Instead of being 3:23, like it would've been now one hour ago, it's only 2:23... If that made sense.

I'm spending this hour writing. I was going to go to bed at 3AM, since I have a long day tomorrow (I'm going to someone's engagement party...ugh...) I looked at the clock and it was 2:50-something. A couple of minutes later, I see it's 2:05... WHAT?!

Then, I remember, Daylight Savings. So, now, I have an extra hour to punch keys. Yay!

Dammit! It's April already?!

I've just realised it's April 4th and I haven't started SF yet. I'm remaining calm on the outside, but worrying on the inside. Anyway, I think I have an idea to start with... I hope!

Oh, by the by, it's Aimee, (Miss_Bella on NaNo) sorry myself and Dean haven't been to drinkies for a while! Been a bit busy >.o

The last bits of sanity!

Okay, guys. We've got just under 32 hours left until Screnzy offically starts! How is everyone preparing for their loss of sanity?

I've just realised I'm very low on coffee *dies* So I'm buying more tomorrow at the last minute. I've got a tonne of chocolate on hand and my notes sprawled across the bed in the spare room/my writing room.

The problem? My laptop's not here. I spilt coffee on it and it kicked the bucket. The solution? It's at a repair center in Melbourne and should be back tomorrow. For the moment I'm using my old, broken laptop. Last year, during NaNo, I injured my hand and lost a laptop in the same night. Said old laptop got a LARGE mug of Mocha spilt all over the keyboard. It sizzled and didn't wanna turn back on. I tried it last night, and it's working ^_^ But the spacebar is a bit sticky...

My writing room is clean, my files are organized, my coffee maker's here and I'm ready to right.

Melbourne Screnziers; what are you doing for last minute preperation?

Australia-New Zealand -- Australia -- Melbourne

Welcome to 2008

Hi everyone, and welcome to Script Frenzy 2008. Feel free to take a moment to introduce yourselves. Is this your first time, or are you a repeat offender? Do you know what you will be writing about, or are you hoping that at around 11:59pm on March 31st a bolt of inspiration will strike you? And what do you think will be the biggest obstacle between you and that sexy hot winner bar?

Australia-New Zealand -- Australia -- Melbourne

Writing snacks!

Yes, one of the best parts of writing. Junk food. Last year in NaNo I gained about 5kg from the amount of chocolate I consumed.

Now, Screnzy. What are your snacks and vices of choice for next month? I currently have M&Ms, Dark (72%) chocolate bars, peanut slabs, Polly Waffles, Crunchies, Kit Kats, Flings, Kopikos and chocolate covered licorice. Next on my list? Chocolate covered coffee beans and a BIG bag of choc-chip cookies!

What are your goodies for April going to be? Of course, I'll have bite-size pieces of apple and carrots too... But chocolate's more inspirational, don't ya think?

Australia-New Zealand -- Australia -- Melbourne

Events

Is anyone interested in having meetups during the month, or do we want to stick with the IRC chats? I know that the weather has suddenly become revolting, but catching up to congratulate and commiserate in person can be a lot of fun. It does, of course, mean leaving our houses occasionally.

So, where would people like to meet up? When is convenient? And do we want a chance to just hang out together (similar to NaNo drinkies) or do we want to stick strictly to writing events? Once off events, or weekly occurances? If two or more people are in agreement for a time and location, I'm happy to add it to the events calendar.

Australia-New Zealand -- Australia -- Melbourne

Word Wars @ IRC!

Word Wars on IRC seemed to be a huge success in Nano - So I'm posting the guide again so that we can do it over for Script Frenzy!

Talea has set up an IRC channel which we're going to be using in the evenings for word wars, so if you want to give them a try, pop along in the evening (probably between 7pm-12 or so to start off, but we'll see how things go and if there are people around at other times, etc.)

#my-chan on irc.dal.net

HELP GUIDE !

WINDOWS

I use mIRC. There are tons of other clients. I'm not listing them all here, because I don't use them.

http://www.mirc.com/get.html

(You don't have to pay for it, ignore that part. Or be responsible and donate or whatever, I don't really care.)

Connecting:
Go to the options dialog, put in a username in the top section (it's called Connect) type in something random in the full name / email sections (don't put your real one there, there's no point.) then pick DALnet from the servers list in the tab below. That should be enough to get you there (yeah it connects slowly.)

Then once you're connected, close the silly channels window that automatically pops up, and type:

/join #my-chan

Voila. I'll try and sit in there when I'm around, but if no one's there at a set time, that just means that no one's around at the moment.

MAC

http://www.ircle.com

Once you've downloaded the program and opened it up 4 boxes should come up on your screen (I'm using OS X but I presume it is similar on all of the mac ircle downloads).

One of them should have "connections" written up the top of it in the task bar. At the bottom of the box it should have "Edit" - click on that and you can make your own username and put in your full name (but it doesn't have to be real, and probably shouldn't be because anyone can see it) and then click ok.

Then go to the "servers" and click on that (its just below the Edit button). Scroll down to the D section - find Dal in the left hand column then follow down until you find irc.dal.net 7000. Click on that so its highlighted, then click add, then click select.

You can then click connect (to the left of the edit button on that box)

Then go to commands right up the very top of the screen, click on Join then type in "#my-chan" then go.

Voila you should be in the chat!

Hope that makes some sort of sense to all you mac users! :)

Note: If the Mac guide doesn't work, send all complaints to whatever username Liz is using; she wrote that part.

Am I the only one here finding it difficult to get in the apprehensive/anxious/overeager state of mind? Orororororor does someone else want to talk about their inabilities to find a worthwhile plot to think about day and night? It would make me feel much better, yeshyesh. <33

Any tips about how to get maxed about Scriptfrenzy? I wanna compete with the major players in the game this year ;D
