Working with the Temecula Library!!

I am so excited! I just had a meeting with a lovely lady from the Friends of the Library here in Temecula at the gorgeous new library with the tremendous view!

First, it's a wonderful resource with a wide open, inviting feel, the most modern facilities and a spectacular view. Secondly, we have a new supporter and possibly new writer joining our group. Rebecca and I will be working together to create events, write-ins, kick-off parties and other get-togethers to more closely tie NaNoWriMo and ScriptFrenzy to the library system.

Rebecca and I have schedule another meeting for May 17th at the Grace Mellman Library in Temecula (41000 County Center Drive, Temecula, CA, 92591) and you are all invited. Come share your ideas and learn what the library can do for us. There are a number of existing events through the year that lend themselves to publicity for NaNo and SF as well as serving to encourage writers in the community.

Rebecca has ties to the school system so we may also be able to capitalize on that connection to gain new writers as linking with area book clubs to find readers willing to offer critiques and feedback - if that's something you want.

We are developing a year-round calendar of events - monthly write-ins to encourage year-round creativity and production. I hope you are all as excited as I am.

TGIO Talk

I know it's early yet but I have two business trips coming up and I want to make sure this doesn't slip through the cracks...

I want to do this at Famous Dave's BBQ in Redlands. Probably on a weekend. After April (duh.) So what's good for you? When CAN you make it? (Honestly, it's easier to keep track of when people are able to attend than when they can't.

Rank these times/dates in order of preference to help.

Fri. June 6 (evening)
Sat. June 7 (afternoon)
Sun. June 8 (afternoon)
Fri. June 13 (yes, I know! ...evening)
Sat. June 14 (afternoon)

Sunday, June 15th is Father's Day which is OK with me but I don't want to interfere with anyone's plans so that's probably out.

My preference would be:
June 7
June 8
June 14
and June 6

As far as afternoon times, let me know what is GOOD for you (when you CAN make it). I don't know how busy the restaurant is, so mid-afternoon like 1:00 PM or later would probably translate to smaller crowds.

So let's talk about this...

United States -- California -- Inland Empire

Ghost Stories? Submit Here!!

I seem to remember last NaNo several people were writing ghost stories. Here's a publication that's seeking submissions:

Ghost! Magazine, Subscriptions: P.O. Box 23357, Jacksonville FL 32241-3357. Email fletcher - at - ghostmag.com. Ph:(904) 608-9362. Website http://www.ghostmag.com. Submissions or reviews: (Ms.) Fletcher Allderdice, P.O. Box 23357, Jacksonville, FL 32241-3357. All submissions to fletcher - at - ghostmag.com. 50% freelance.

"Ghost! Magazine is dedicated to bringing credible and thought-provoking articles to those interested in ghosts and paranormal research. Each issue addresses those readers who are merely curious to those who have dedicated years to hunting and researching ghostly phenomena."

Welcomes new writers. Quarterly. Pays on acceptance. Publishes MS 3-6 months after acceptance. Buys first N.A. rights. No reprints. Responds 2-4 weeks. Sample articles at website. Subscription $19.95. Guidelines online at http://www.ghostmag.com/writer_guide.htm.

"I generally just handle each incoming prospect as the delightfully unique experience I know it is bound to be. After all, isn't that what guidelines are for??"

CURRENT NEEDS: "Phantom Fiction - 1200-1500 word ghost oriented story. No horror. Paranormal in nature, featuring or including a ghost; The Clubroom - 800 words featuring a ghost hunting organization and the reason for their success; Tales from the Trenches - 1000 words featuring a particularly interesting investigation by a research or paranormal group; Spaces, Places and Faces - 500-800 words featuring some ghostly venue such as bed and breakfasts, ghost tours, and interesting ghostly stories which don't fit into any other department; Chasers: Celebrity paranormal researchers / mediums / psychics - 1200-1500 words. Regardless of department, copy is expected to be clean and free of the usual run of the mill grammar and spelling errors. Otherwise, it doesn't have a 'ghost' of a chance." Pays $25-$50 per article.

NOTE: The company's online guidelines currently state they don't pay, but they do pay writers.

Submit query to appropriate editor via email. "Do not send full manuscripts. We will not accept unsolicited attachments and they will not be opened."

PHOTOS/ART: "400 dpi. Model release must accompany photo." Pays $25 if accepted.

HINTS: "Many erroneously think that Ghost! Magazine is a blood-and-gore type of magazine, or is slanted for the horror genre. It is not."

Let's post some mini-excerpts here. I'm dying to understand Kimby's hampster POV, as well as see all the other cool stuff everyone's up to.

My stuff's on my home laptop, but I'll probably manage to get something on here eventually too.

So do it! Vamanos, davai!

Introduce Yourself!

Hi everyone! If you were here last year or you've done NaNo in the past three years, my name will be a familiar one. I'm Diann and I am the Municipal Liaison for the Inland Empire. Yes, that's one me for all of Riverside AND San Bernardino counties.

I have big plans for this April and I'm looking forward to meeting some of you and hearing about your adventures in script writing! I think I'm doing chick lit again but my Magic Eight Ball (R) is still a bit hazy on that. For those who remember my co-ML Sara from NaNo, she's still in the Ukraine, living the high life and trying to broaden minds. I've tried to convince her she can write her masterpieces anywhere but we'll have to see if I've succeeded in brainwashing her.

There will be a kick-off party before April begins. I don't know where or when yet but will post more before the actual party. I have a meeting scheduled with the Temecula Public Library on Saturday. They're interested in working with us for SF and NaNo which is very exciting!

Anyway, here's the thread: check in, let us know who you are are, what you're writing, where in the Inland Empire you're located, and anything else you care to share.

Can't wait 'til April!!

United States -- California -- Inland Empire

Calendar Events

Those of us who have introduced ourselves thus far live in pretty far flung areas of the counties, so I want to encourage everyone to organize write-ins, get-togethers and other writing-related events in your own area.

Simply send me the info on your event and I'll add it to our regional calendar.

And let's try to gather together for the TGIO party in Redlands. Date TBA.
