The Script Frenzy office is buzzing with activity as Team Frenzy prepares for the 2011 website relaunch tomorrow.

Our tech wizards, Jezra and Dan are feverishly working to put the final bells and whistles on the site. Their fingers are typing code so fast, I’m pretty sure I saw smoke coming from their keyboards.

You’re probably wondering when the new and improved site will launch. At the earliest, the website will “go live” by 5:00 PM (PST).

We appreciate your patience as we join forces to make this happen. Stay tuned!

Welcome Script Frenziers!

In a valiant effort to stop spammers from posting on the Script Frenzy website we’ve implemented a new anti-spam module. The module is designed to filter, detect, and mark content posted by fake accounts. If you have been blocked from posting, or if you see a delay in your post going live, don’t panic. The spam filter is just working overtime to block those unruly spammers and sometimes it catches one of our trusted, regular users by mistake.

My name is Sandra Salas and I’m the new Script Frenzy program director. It’s an exciting time here at Script Frenzy basecamp. We’re gearing up for the Script Frenzy 2011 launch, and I’m thrilled! We’re hard at work making sure the website is chock full of nifty improvements, tips, and resources to help you climb the scriptwriting mountain. I’m excited to walk this path with you, cheer you on when the going gets tough, and help you reach your goal of completing 100 pages in 30 days.

I’m feeling the Frenzy as I juggle my new job and continue teaching a directing class at the Berkeley Digital Film Institute. The month of April is just around the corner, and of course your fearless Script Frenzy program director has her script ready to go.

The truth is I haven’t had a lot of extra time to think about my script. Sound familiar?

As you know, we’re in the process of hiring a new SF Program Director, and after meeting with a bunch of incredible candidates, we’re looking forward to passing the baton to an enthusiastic new leader. Doesn’t it feel like way more than seven months since we wrapped Script Frenzy 2010?

It certainly does in my corner of the world! Since Script Frenzy ended, the office has moved to new digs in Berkeley, I have discovered cold-brewed coffee (oh my!), saw William Shatner in real life (Oh! (beat) (beat) (beat) My!), participated in fellow OLLer Tavia Stewart-Streit’s inaugural Invisible City Audio Tour, and produced an indie feature film. Whew!

In between all that, I have gone through heavy revisions of my 2008 Script Frenzy script. This is the story that I hope to direct next year. (It’ll be my first feature as a director!)

As I move forward trying to get this feature into production, it is time for me to hang up my Script Frenzy Program Director hat.

It has been so great seeing Script Frenzy grow and change over the years and I feel honored to have been a part of it. Can you believe that in 2008 there were about 8,000 participants and as I write this we have over 25,000 folks signed up? Ironically, the success of the program has been a huge part of my decision to leave. With its larger size comes a larger time commitment and I have learned I can’t juggle running the program and being a filmmaker at the same time. (Time machine or cloning device anyone?)

I can't believe I've been here for almost two months. Time flies when you're hard at work inspiring people to write their hearts out.

I just wanted to point your attention to our new blog! We're very excited to have a brand new space to write about OLL-related projects, our favorite movies and plays, and all the other trouble we get into. We've got some great features, like "Writer Fuel," where we write about recipes that keep us going when the writing gets tough, and "What We're Reading," which is, not surprisingly, about what we're reading. This weekend I read a wonderful play by Adam Rapp, which I plan on blogging about this week! Keep an eye out for it, and if you have any other blog-worthy topics, please feel free to send them my way.

Our new hires have arrived! Chris Angotti, the Young Writers Program Director, and Nancy Smith, Community Liaison, are settled in at their desks and already making some amazing things happen here in the office and out in the OLL-sphere. We’re so thrilled to have their brilliant brains at work on our programs.

So you know what's kind of cool? Having Script Frenzy mentioned in the New York Times.

It's been that kind of week here at Frenzy headquarters, as we continue to polish our April scripts and begin looking towards the distant shores of November's NaNoWriMo. We're also wrapping up the job interviews for a couple new full-time positions we're hiring for Script Frenzy's parent nonprofit, the Office of Letters and Light. A month from now, we'll have a brand-new full-time Community Liaison who will be Beat'ing, Facebooking, and Twittering up a storm of delightful script-alicious items for your consideration.

We'll also have a new Young Writers Program Director, who will be helping kids and teens bash out one of the great (and likely vampire-filled) movies or plays they've been carrying around in their heads. We can't wait to welcome the Community Liaison and YWP Director on board with a jumbo iced coffee and an in-depth tutorial on the Script Frenzy secret handshake (hint: interlocked devil horns that transform into flapping butterflies with a one-legged fist-bump finish).

Wow. I've said too much. Anyway, we hope you're having an excellent mid-June!

It was an incredible Script Frenzy 2010! 2,083 people crossed the finish line and a grand total of 373,906 pages were penned in April.

Participation jumped an astounding 76% from last year. Donations were up. Store sales were up. (Both of these things make our Board of Directors very happy.) We had an incredible A-list cast of Cameo contributors. Overall, it was a stellar year.

Much of this couldn't have been done without our incredible volunteer team of Municipal Liaisons. I hope you had a chance to meet yours because these people are superstars. They did a fantastic job organizing write-ins, parties, cheerleading, and keeping everyone in the loop by sending out regional emails. Their efforts deserve nothing short of a giant standing ovation. I'm guessing that won't be easy to gather all 21,000 of us in one room for all the cheering, so instead I'll say from everyone here at the office to every single ML, "Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! You did a tremendous job and we all heart you and all that you do."
