An Excerpt from Shakes In The Park

INT. FINE ARTS BUILDING DAY

Rob, Craig, Jim, Allie, and Erin are painting a large canvas sheet for a backdrop. Mark and Sam walk in and pick up paintbrushes. Their clothes are rumpled.

ALLIE
Fight scene, huh?

Mark rolls his eyes.

MARK
So far I get to be kicked onto the stage, punched, and stabbed twice.

SAM
And killed. Don't forget killed.

MARK
Two years of doing theatre with Drew, and I always end up playing a character who gets his head kicked in.

ROB
No, wait. Wasn't there a musical we did one year where all you had to do was dance?

MARK
Yeah, and that year I fell and twisted my ankle during rehearsals and had to sit out for the rest of the show.

ROB
Oh yeah. I forgot about that.

MARK
Just once I'd like to be the villain...or the smart one...or just somebody who wins a fight every now and again.
