I have a day job in video post-production and frankly, I'm nuts about movies. My favorites include Hollywood studio classics made by people like Ford, Cukor, Wyler, Hitchcock, Huston, Lubitsch, Kazan, Wilder. I like corny backstage musicals, the Marx Brothers and Woody Allen comedies. I am a total sucker for shoot-'em-up gangster movies: vintage stuff like "Public Enemy" and "Little Caesar" and the big ones by Coppola, Scorsese, Tarantino, etc. I also love tearjerkers: sometimes nothing is more satisfying than crying in the dark at the movies.
I see a lot of contemporary film at work, both features and documentaries. I also watch a fair amount of foreign language films-- mostly French, German and Italian-- but some Russian, Japanese and Chinese films too. Recent recommendations: Das Leben der Anderen (The Lives of Others), No Country for Old Men, Juno, Persepolis, Ratatouille, Body of War.
