Forest at Night
Subtitle: 1997
It is raining. DR. KEISER is assisting DR. CROMER through the forest. Dr. Cromer is sickly.
DR. CROMER
Over there.
Dr. Keiser leans Dr. Cromer against a tree.
DR. CROMER (CONT'D)
Move that.
Dr. Cromer points to a sewer grate in the ground.
DR. KEISER
What?
DR. CROMER
Just do it!
Dr. Keiser stares at Dr. Cromer for a second. He moves the grate.
DR. CROMER (CONT'D)
Wait for me here. I'll only be a minute.
DR. KEISER
But-
DR. CROMER
Stay here, Keiser!
Dr. Cromer lowers himself into the grate. He pulls it closed behind him. Time passes.
DR. KEISER
Dr. Cromer?
Nothing.
DR. KEISER (CONT'D)
Dr. Cromer!
Dr. Keiser follows Dr. Cromer into the grate. Time passes and plants and dirt cover the grate.
Subtitle: August 29th, 2013
The passage of time slows, and a massive storm blows through. Trees collapse and the debris covering the grate is blown away.
backyard
BRIAN HOLCOMBE is near the back, clearing branches and other debris, carrying it back into the woods. He has his camera with him, and takes a picture of an interesting pile of debris. NOLAN BLACKWOOD comes around the side of the house.
NOLAN
Brian!
BRIAN
Yeah?
NOLAN
You remember where I left the other pile of tiling?
BRIAN
Behind the screen in the garage. You need a second stack?
NOLAN
I told you it was worse than it looked.
BRIAN
Hell of a storm.
NOLAN
Hell of a storm.
NOLAN continues to the garage. BRIAN continues clearing branches. Walking back into the woods, he dumps another stack of debris by an uprooted tree. He kneels on the tree for a moment to catch his breath and sees the grate. There are some branches wedged in it. BRIAN sighs and begins to clear it. He climbs inside to get a better grip on a branch and-
BRIAN is hit with an electrical shock and falls down a short ladder to the ground. Screen goes black.
