An Excerpt from The Imposition
LACUDRA is smiling and showing his teeth as he answers down the phone.
LACUDRA
Bill, Bill. You sound stressed out. Like Taylor did before he killed himself. Relax. You don't want to end up like him.
(CONTINUOUS)
INT. HOUSE - NIGHT
LINDEMANN has got the knife stuck in an avocado stone and is trying to shake it loose.
LINDEMANN
What? What has that got to do with this? What, you think that I'm going to... (laughs) Are you crazy? It's you that's going down for this. You. (Pause). What? (Pause). What did you say? (Pause). You can't have.
(CONTINUOUS)
INT. APARTMENT - NIGHT
LACUDRA is smiling wryly down the phone.
LACUDRA
I was there, Bill. I saw everything. How he tried to make his big story to the assembled press. (Sighs). Well, at least he did the right thing in the end.
(CONTINUOUS)
INT. HOUSE - NIGHT
LINDEMANN has put the knife down and is hunched over against the refrigerator.
LINDEMANN
I thought the blood would never stop. I just kept looking at his face and thinking that he looked so relaxed, and a minute ago he'd been so stressed out.
(CONTINUOUS)
INT. APARTMENT - NIGHT
LACUDRA is sitting relaxed in his chair, enjoying a cigar.
LACUDRA
I know. (Pause). Yes. Me too. (Pause). We all did. Yes. Now go and get some rest. You'll need it for tomorrow. Don't worry, I'll be there tomorrow.
He hits the CALL END button on the telephone. There is a click and a continuous purring tone.
(CONTINUOUS)
INT. HOUSE - NIGHT
LINDEMANN slumps to the floor holding the phone after the call ends.
LINDEMANN
Oh my god. He was there. He was there.
