newbie

I got the NaNoWriMo email about Script Frenzy & here I am.

That means I'm new. At least I thought I was til I tried to log in. I guess I signed up last year, but I certainly didn't write anything. I've done NaNoWriMo 2 or 3 times (never finished), and I just finished FAWM (february is Album Writing Month (write 14 songs in 28 days) for the second year in a row. That I managed to finish.

I have no idea what I will write about but I'm reading a book on screenwriting and digging through my brain for ideas :)

RE: newbie

I'm a Script Frenzy newbie, too, writing a stage play (and having absolutely no idea what I'm doing in any regard). At the moment, I'm trying to decipher this whole formatting deal. Novels are so much easier! :-) But I'm determined.

RE: newbie

Regardless of what you're writing, you should download Celtx or some other writing/formatting aid. I used Celtx last year and it was beautiful - it worked like a charm and plus its free. (It's under the Writer's Resources tab, I believe.)

There are also a few other forums/threads that might help with ideas, but for me I found getting attached to a few characters and letting them bring their own plot helped a lot. Of course, you can go check out the "Adopt-A-Plot" thread, etc, if you want.

I wrote a screenplay last year, which was a lot of fun (even with the plot holes, it still worked out). This year, though, it looks like I'll be doing a television script - my characters are far too diverse to allow for a movie. I'm excited about it to.

Good luck.

RE: newbie

I downloaded Celtx but haven't played around with it yet. I read another comment somewhere about how Celtx is great with screenplay formatting but not so great with stage plays . . ?

RE: newbie

I am a newbie too. I tried Nano last year but didn't quite get far enough. I am hoping I can get a script done in April.

I have an idea but as everyone knows as you start writing it changes. Good luck to everyone

RE: newbie

thanks - I've downloaded Celtx and will have a look at it. I'm reading up on screenwriting, and I'm doing the research and a bit of an outline in preparation for writing the script. I've also been reading screenplays to get a sense of how they look and feel. This will be interesting! Challenging!

RE: newbie

This is my first year doing ScriptFrenzy... I won NaNo during my first run last year and am very excited to try my hand at this. I might not get started too quickly since I'm busy stage managing a local play whose show runs on weekend nights all through April, but hopefully it'll help rather than hinder.

RE: newbie

Yeah, I'm away April 1, 2 & 3rd, and then my Dad's coming to stay with me for 3 or 4 days after that! But I guess I'll just have to write extra pages on the other days. And not get distracted. I'll try taking a notebook on my trip.
