Word Wars @ IRC!

Word Wars on IRC seemed to be a huge success in Nano - So I'm posting the guide again so that we can do it over for Script Frenzy!

Talea has set up an IRC channel which we're going to be using in the evenings for word wars, so if you want to give them a try, pop along in the evening (probably between 7pm-12 or so to start off, but we'll see how things go and if there are people around at other times, etc.)

#my-chan on irc.dal.net

HELP GUIDE !

WINDOWS

I use mIRC. There are tons of other clients. I'm not listing them all here, because I don't use them.

http://www.mirc.com/get.html

(You don't have to pay for it, ignore that part. Or be responsible and donate or whatever, I don't really care.)

Connecting:
Go to the options dialog, put in a username in the top section (it's called Connect) type in something random in the full name / email sections (don't put your real one there, there's no point.) then pick DALnet from the servers list in the tab below. That should be enough to get you there (yeah it connects slowly.)

Then once you're connected, close the silly channels window that automatically pops up, and type:

/join #my-chan

Voila. I'll try and sit in there when I'm around, but if no one's there at a set time, that just means that no one's around at the moment.

MAC

http://www.ircle.com

Once you've downloaded the program and opened it up 4 boxes should come up on your screen (I'm using OS X but I presume it is similar on all of the mac ircle downloads).

One of them should have "connections" written up the top of it in the task bar. At the bottom of the box it should have "Edit" - click on that and you can make your own username and put in your full name (but it doesn't have to be real, and probably shouldn't be because anyone can see it) and then click ok.

Then go to the "servers" and click on that (its just below the Edit button). Scroll down to the D section - find Dal in the left hand column then follow down until you find irc.dal.net 7000. Click on that so its highlighted, then click add, then click select.

You can then click connect (to the left of the edit button on that box)

Then go to commands right up the very top of the screen, click on Join then type in "#my-chan" then go.

Voila you should be in the chat!

Hope that makes some sort of sense to all you mac users! :)

Note: If the Mac guide doesn't work, send all complaints to whatever username Liz is using; she wrote that part.

RE: Word Wars @ IRC!

Sigh, and of course I make a typo and can't edit topics I create -_-

Enjoy the wall of bold text, it really wasn't intentional :(

RE: Word Wars @ IRC!

It sounds classier if you say that you meant to do it. The bold was a stylistic device, to differentiate for the reader which was your introduction and which was the instruction. Or something like that.

RE: Word Wars @ IRC!

Sigh now I can't edit out the bit that said I messed up the main post.

It was all INTENTIONAL, to make the help guide point out the IMPORTANT bits.

Also, if you see me (x1863) online in the channel and no one else, I'm not ignoring you if I don't reply, so don't be offended ok. I leave the thing running minimised 24/7 so chances are, I'm not actually at the computer.
