[Sticky] Welcome! Come introduce yourself! |
Let's have a general introduction/welcome thread!
(Feel free to share as much or as little as you like. I tend to ramble)
My name's April and I'm apparently the Municipal Liaison - that means I mostly will be a cheerleader, a bit of a moderator on the forums if needed, and generally responsive to email.
I live in Catonsville (Baltimore County, just a tad to the southwest of Baltimore City itself) and teach Freshman Composition at UMBC and CCBC (and an online college that I don't like as much). I live with my husband and my cat, and that's plenty for me.
We're food geeks - rather into America's Test Kitchen and Cook's Illustrated - my husband's really getting into the science of it all with some of the classics by McGee and This.
We're also sorta scifi geeks - I'm not as up on anything current, but I'm addicted to Babylon 5 (Except I hate the direct-to-DVD movie that came out last year). I have all of JMS's script books to date and I adore the way he layers plot and character and theme and has such extended-delay payoff. I'm also a bit of a comics geek - I used to be way-90s-Vertigo, but then at the start of last year I started reading all X-Men and related titles. I'm just at the turn of 2000/2001 now.
I've done some one-acts for "the 24 experiment" - a 24 hour playwriting/producing festival, but I haven't done anything "on my own" really. For this thing, I'm working with my strengths and doing a series of one acts, and I don't want to say more for fear of jinxing myself.
So that's me - who are you?

RE: Welcome! Come introduce yourself! |
Hi, my name is Hsien (pronounced "Shane"), and I live in Howard County...my zip code says I'm in Ellicott City, but in reality, I'm actually in Columbia.
My friends and I all have pretty mundane day jobs, yet at the same time we're a fantastic collective of artistic talent and aspirations! Getting some sort of film project together is something we've talked about for years, as, within our ranks, we have people skilled in directing, video editing, graphic art, music/scoring, and even a bonafide screenwriter, though the last thing he produced took him over 2 years and it was only 17 pages long!
So, as for myself, I've been practicing screenwriting on and off for years, but never really put together anything beyond 10-20 pages. But I'm taking it upon myself to try and crank something out, since our other friend likes to take his sweet time. Here's hoping this will be the kick in the ass I need to really put something together!

Hi! I'm also in Columbia, and I also am at UMBC - I'm a grad student there, doing this as a means of delaying my Ph.D. completion. (Brave ML, we should totally get together and watch B5).
I never really was interested in film/TV, but I have lately been scarfing down Graphic Novels like a fiend. So, I found out that the story of Beowulf translates very nicely into a Western! So that's what I'm working on.
Anyway, look me up at UMBC! (Or in the Borders in Columbia)
Evan
2008: Script Frenzy - Beowulf as a Western? You bet!
2007: Master's Paper & a Journal Article (I'm kinda cheating this year)
2006: Weiner!
2005: Weiner!
2004: Not so much...

Howdy ya'll!
My name...I don't like it. Just call me by my universal on-line/penname, Kinkatia. Or Zarina. Or Pluto. I answer to all.
I'm up in the backwoods of Cecil County. Well...used to be, before the developers found us. I'm a high school senior looking forward to going to college in Chicago next year. And that means that this is the last time I will be affiliated with Maryland for quite some time. I'll be off elsewhere.
Anyway, I'm an aspiring novelist, and decided that I'd give Screnzy a try after my first NaNoWriMo was such a learning experience. And so here I am.
I am writing...a musical.
About a semi-minor villain from a fantasy world I created...
...when I was eight. It just kinda stuck around. Go figure.
So, this little-known villainess who never gets cught has such a tragic life filled with chaos, loss, war, and the ever-looming insanity that eventually takes over her mind, and it never gets told. NOW IT SHALL! -insert maniacal laughter here- Ahem. That is all.

RE: Welcome! Come introduce yourself! |
HELLO!
I'm Jen! I'm at school at Goucher College in Towson right now, studying mostly English and a little bit of theater. I love to write, last November was the first time I took part in NanoWriMo. I didn't finish, but I almost hit 20,000 words... a first for me.
Currently, my number one love is the Harry Potter series, mainly I'm obsessed with the Weasley clan.
Here are some things I love:
Macaroni and Cheese
Chickens
The Beatles
Movies
Hercules
Disney
Video Games
musical theater
writing
anime
my sisters
Stitch, from Lilo and Stitch
My bunny rabbit, CJ
Borat
pop-tarts
Sci-fi and fiction
I love a lot of other stuff, too, but I feel like that's a pretty good cross section, and probably explains me better than if I had actually tried to describe myself. :D
The top three things that I'm looking forward to right now are Script frenzy, ICON (a sci-fi and fantasy writers convention in Long Island), and heading off to England in the fall for a whole semester.
Anyone know anything about Canterbury?

RE: Welcome! Come introduce yourself! |
Hello everyone!
My name is Chloe. I'm now 16 years old (which I should be getting my driving permit, if I wasn't so afraid!), and I live in Frederick. I met a couple people at the TGIO party for last year's NaNo. If you're still here - hello! For this SF, I'll be turning my novel into a movie script; in case it so happens to be picked up and turned into a movie. :D Ah, I can only hope. I'm still working on finishing the second edit of my book, so it'll all be ready come April.
This will be my first Frenzy, and I've heard they're a lot different than writing novels, but it's a good challenge. It also looks good on your college applications, so this all works out perfectly. Um, here are some links to my "webpages" around the internet, if you feel like checking it out.

That's all! I look forward to meeting everyone (I hope!)

RE: [Sticky] Welcome! Come introduce yourself! |
Hi, call me Kakobub. I moved to Maryland last september in the middle of my senior year of High school. I used to live in Oregon, where I was really close to all of the write-ins, but now I don't really know where anything is, but that's ok. I live in a small town called Arnold, close to Annapolis, I've heard. I'm in love with horses, animals, art and (since Nanowrimo, I might add) writing. Sadly, I will not be joining nano or script frenzy next year, and the following year I will most likely be in Pennsylvania for college, so this is my one and only year in Maryland for a while. Yea... I don't really have an idea for this year, which should be interesting. Yup.

Hi, I'm Alys (pronounced Alice), recently arrived in Howard County from Washington state, and before that Wisconsin. (My husband's in the army.) I'm a stay-at-home mom, though I've been considering getting a part-time job as we're supposed to be here in Maryland for another couple years. And a large part of the draw of NaNo and SF for me is actually using my brain and vocabulary at someting above a toddler level.
Current favorite activities during toddler naptime include Torchwood and Supernatural (TV shows), Mass Effect (VG), and the wonderful Nalini Singh psy-changeling series of books with wretched titles that my mother got me for an early birthday present. When the toddler's awake, we return to slides, play-dough, "boxing", (which involves pretending to box so he can fall down with great melodrama), "dragon", (which is just a pony ride, but he likes dragons more than horses), coloring, Veggie Tales, and Blue's Clues.

RE: [Sticky] Welcome! Come introduce yourself! |
I'm located in the Columbia area. I've participated in Nano for the past three years, winning the first time this past year. Most of my writing has to do with something supernatural, usually with a little darker.
It's great seeing all these fellow Nano-ites on the forum. P Funky--missed you this year at the write-ins (I know you made one but then poof gone). So happy to see you here.
Can't wait to see how we all do. Strike that. Can't wait to get started first. Then I'll worry about success.

Hey everyone. =] I'm Niki, I'm 19, and I'm a Carroll/Howard border kid. I work in Catonsville, although for the last week or so it's been less work and more Screnzy plotting. Alas, I still have no plot.
