Middle Grade?

I'm thinking more along the lines of a humorous play by middle graders for families. Is anyone else interested in this type of play or am I flying solo on this one?

RE: Middle Grade?

At the moment, nothing. I'm thinking a fairy tale spoof. Something with Goldilocks. I have an vague idea, but am really usure of why. In other words, No plot! No purpose! : /

RE: Middle Grade?

Red Riding Hood has been spoofed to death. Don't know about Goldilocks though... in a teen/middle school setting?

RE: Middle Grade?

I'm with you on the LRRH. Research indicates Goldi has a very small part in theater (a fractured fairy tales episode where Goldi's home is invaded by the bears.) This is quite different from how I would use her. My thought on Goldi is as a homeless/runaway. Think bed time story meets Grimm.

Who knows?!?!?!?

What are you working on?

As I posted in another part:

"I'm going a PG 13 road though - it seems a lot are going for the risque scripts but mine's a fun romance/comedy in the vein of freaky friday... or at least I hope it's going to be (comedy ain't easy to write).

Two girls switching family and brothers but soon discover things about themselves and their attitude to their family that needs to be changed."

Sounds intriguing and something my daughter would love to see.

Do I see that right? You have 27 pages done? I was quite pleased with my measly six!

You go girl.

Cartoongal - Your plot sounds really interesting. I'm a 14-year-old girl and I would love to see that. I've always wanted to switch families with my friends.

Lexicon - If you can adapt Goldilocks, more power to you! I admire people who can take a short story and make it into a full length movie.

I'm going along the lines of twin sisters and their 3 famous rock star neighbors. Not sure what's going to happen yet, but yeah. Do you think it sounds good?

RE: Middle Grade?

I'm not really adapting Goldilocks per se. I'm kind of using her, and a hodgepodge of other fairy tales, as a guideline. She's a miscreant who has to choose which path she wants to take in life. The humor comes from using classic lines from classic(ly changed) fairy tale characters. You can check out my excerpt and give me an honest critique of the first scene. I took out most of the cues and left mainly dialogue for the sake of brevity.

As to your play, I do love the twin thing. There is always so much you can do with them compared to singles. Just curious- are the rock stars boys perhaps with a little romance in the script or girls to up the jealousy and create lots of conflict? A mixture of both?

Keep us posted as your plot/theme develops.

RE: Middle Grade?

Yay, there' a few of us going for the same sort of genre. It feels a bit like a genre in a genre. The happy family movie, as opposed to the serious issue tackling family movie.

LGTH (did I write that right? You know who I mean) the whole idea of having rock star neighbours is a great one. Teen movies with rockstars of film stars interacting with the main characters is always fun to watch.

I'm 23 and I grew up, but have since regressed, re-finding my love of family movies, and I have no intention of changing.

I love the High School Musical movies for the same reason a lot of people hate them - their innocence! There's so much violence and sexuality out there nowadays, I love that they've found an overenthusiastic audience (sort of our niche!), people wanting something a bit more fluffy again.

Cartoongal - I read your extract on your profile and it's great. It really is. Good work ladies!!!
