RE: Legal Music

http://thesixtyone.com is a free music site also. You need to sign up, but you get points for logging in and spend points by 'bumping' songs you like. The more people bump, the more points you earn back. You can add songs to your profile and homepage and create custom playlists with no limit of lists (limit 25 or so songs per list though).

I've found some great artists there like the Grammar Club, Alyse Black, and the Birdlips. Maybe a bit involved now that Screnzy is actually here, but still tons of fun.

RE: Legal Music

I am just learning to write screenplays and surfed the internet for some music. Found this:
http://www.sonnyboo.com/downloads/filmmaker.htm
Did a little more research later and realized that Peter John Ross does a lot to help amateur filmmakers so I am now proud to send in his web page of free downloads.

To try is to risk failure. Not to try is to assure it.

Thanks for this. (I was looking for this kind of info in the soundtracks forum.)

RE: Legal Music

I use Project Playlist all the time (www.projectplaylist.com). The music can't be downloaded, so more or less, you're just 'borrowing' the music, and you can make nifty mood music playlists to help you while you're writing.

RE: Legal Music

Of course, if you can write your own music, do so. That's what I'm doing. I always have a soundtrack running in my head, and I can always tailor it to the scene. For my '07 NaNoWriMo novel Bad Company, which I was going to adapt to screenplay this Screnzy (until I found I now had the perfect excuse to resurrect my long-running manga project Spanner), I was going to write 15 songs for FAWM and have main girl Charlie sing every one of them. (It might not be possible to fit them all in the screenplay, though...) I'll also provide the animated version of Spanner with its techno-type soundtrack; I only need to learn how to use the music software (and get a keyboard).
