Your progress.

Ahhs! Oh noes!! My second ACT is running a couple minutes short. Mind you, the pilot is still going to run approx just over 50 minutes, with a longer third ACT then what I read is normal.
Oh wells, yes? I thought so. No big deal:-)

Anyway, so I'm just about to wrap up my second ACT with the revelation of a characters mysterious knowledge (she knows where the portals are, and in the teaser I had her see a portal, but not explain it). She gets visions. Shush, I didn't rip of Doyle and Cordy in any way:-P

So, how is your script coming along? Teaser, no teaser? Are you trying to stay in the first ACT as long as possible because the second just kinda freaks you out? Are you braving the second ACT with no worries? Looking forward to the third ACT (I know I am)?

RE: Your progress.

You do know we've got a month for this, right? ;) I'm in Act One (Teaser done) of six - just got around to starting the emotional conflict. There's no pressure, I'm still ahead of the required page count and my outline leaves me with no worries for reaching the end.

RE: Your progress.

Heh, yeah. I know. I want to try and finish as many episodes as I can in the month.
Stress-free is always nice:-) It's what I like about doing a lot at first, because by the third week I'm barely writing anything

RE: Your progress.

7 pages last night, which is the teaser and a bit of Act One. But now I have to take the rest of the week off to finish essays and such. Then I have unreliable computer access for the week after, so I may not get much more done. Basically, I have to make it all up in the third week, when I have both assured computer access and lots of free time (who needs to study for exams?). The final week will be finishing up whatever I need to, though once again I may or may not have computer access.

Sooo...technically I'm "ahead" right now, but I'll fall behind soon, and hopefully my page count will rocket up in a couple of weeks.

But so far so good. :) I have my pilot all mapped out in my head - it'll be the second episode that I may have trouble with.

RE: Your progress.

I have a basic outline for my pilot ep. It's just...I've got not clue where to put the bloody Act breaks! I'm still in Act One..on page 9 (with a 3 page teaser) so from some things I've read I've got to hit about page 18-20 or so and that ought to be the end of Act One. Anyhow, I'm aiming for 15 pages today.

RE: Your progress.

I write what I can and worry about it later. To me, that's what April and November are about. I'm not going to be concerned if an episode or act runs long, because I can edit it later. And even if my draft is still long then, well, that's why editors exist, to trim the fat and leave a lean product. And even then, it's what deleted scenes are for, the next best reason after commentary to buy dvds. The important thing for me is to get all the ideas and scenes and character interactions and pithy dialogue down because the story is what matters most to me at this early point.

I'm on to my second episode (of season two actually), where things are looking up just a little bit for my characters. I don't like heavy emotional fallout episodes, since it's just not the sort of person I am, but they're necessary from time to time. One of my fake little people had a really bad summer and it's taking some effort to get him back on track. It'll be a slow process, but at least by the end of 202 he won't be as unlikeable as he was in 201. I wrote it and I'm still amazed he didn't get slapped.

RE: Your progress.

Haven't really got started yet. I'm only up to page 2.

One of the benefits of aiming my one at the BBC is that I don't really have to worry about act breaks. I am going to have teaser segments and scripted previously and next on... segments.

RE: Your progress.

Pfft, well, my progress ain't as good as yours! Heavens, 52pgs already? Well, congrats. I've got nine as of writing this post. So far, better than NANO, at least. XD

I've got a teaser, and I'm using the four-act structure. I'm in act one, with only vague ideas of where I'm going. I've got a lot to include, though. Heh. But I'm liking it so far. My teaser's about two pages long (which I think is short for me, but eh, I never really like the teasers, so I don't care. It's a good tool, especially in this case, setting it all up. But I watch the shows I watch and write what I do for the characters--the regulars--I love, not the show-to-show, never-mentioned-again victims/patients/witnesses/criminals/suspects/what-have-you. Some are cool, but not better than our main dears. :3). The first act has some yummy Master-Wilkins banter (those are quotes from them from my draft in my siggy. Things like--"The least you could do is not botch this up with Odell in the first five minutes.""But once we hit the six minute mark, we're okay? Should I time it?") I'm having an absolute ball with these guys and this script. I can't wait to get the Blackstone crew and Jeremy-darling in there. <33

Let's see how many more pages I can get before going to bed...

RE: Your progress.

I've sort of lived with these characters for the better part of the last year and I spent most of March finishing up with the first year of their college lives (that should've happened in January/February, but I was showing some WGA solidarity). When I first came up with the idea for last year's Frenzy, I knew what big events I wanted to happen at the end of their first year and what effect they'd have on the start of the second, if I chose to keep telling the story.

And when I know (roughly) where the story is going, I can piece together dialogue fairly quickly. On good days, it's well over ten pages per hour, though the ends of the episodes come really quickly. For each episode, I usually have about a page outline of scenes I want to include. I'm not trying to impose an act formula right away, but it often develops that way with how I pace them. Usually after the teaser, I end up completely off of the outline and jump back and forth on and off of it. But I always know the end of the episode and that goal makes things much easier to figure out along the way.

The truth is that I had Tuesday completely free and I started exactly at midnight after drinking a couple cans of soda. After I came back from class on Wednesday, I saw where I was and pushed myself as hard as I could. That might explain why today I'm a little dizzy and tired and have a killer headache. I don't recommend this method, but I can't help but do it this way.
