Anybody in Lancs

Hi folks.
Just wondering if there's anybody in or around Lancaster. I found that being able to meet up and see how other people are getting on was a great motivating factor in NaNo last year, but I don't know anyone round here who's doing the script frenzy.

Dialogue was always my weakpoint, so if anything the extra push would be even more welcome this month. I've sat in the JuiCafe for 2 days now, and produced slightly less than one page of script.

Thanks

Hi Slainangel,

I was born in Lancaster if that helps any! lol. I'm fairly close though, I live in Fleetwood now! Just thought I'd say Hello!

How are you getting on with your script now? I'm only on my 3rd page and feeling a little behind, but I'm working on my plot some more now, so I can catch up easier I hope!

Good Luck!

RE: Anybody in Lancs

Yay :) Good to know there's others around, although I think by now my motivation has mostly evaporated.

Just too easy to get distracted, and pages aren't really a feasible progress measure, as keeping everything formatted right takes more time than the actual writing.

Still, I'll keep going and see if I can manage to do a complete script, at least.

RE: Anybody in Lancs

Slainangel,

Do yourself a favour and get hold of some screenwriting software. It really does take care of all that irritating formatting for you and takes the headache and monotony of having to keep retyping character names etc out of the equation, so you can concentrate on what matters - the writing.

All of them take about an hour tops to get the hang of. I use SOPHOCLES ( http://www.sophocles.net ) which is the best as far as I'm concerned although it isn't free (approx £60) but you can take it for a test drive as there's a fantastic demo. BUT you can get FREE software that does the basics very well. CELTX ( http://www.celtx.com ) is just one, and I'm sure you've seen it mentioned on this forum as it's quite popular. Another good one that's only just been made available free is Page2Stage ( http://www.windwardreports.com/page2stage2.htm ), and you get quite a bit of power for no cost with it.

Seriously, download one and give it a try. I could never go back to using a regular word processor after discovering screenwriting software - all that tabbing and retyping would do my head in!! :-/

RE: Anybody in Lancs

Thanks :)

I already checked out quite a few apps, at least for long enough to discover there isn't a version for Windows Mobile.

So far, I found exactly one screenwriting application that is available: Scriptright. No demo though, so I gird my loins, grit my teeth and fork out $34.95 for the privilege of trying it out. My experience is that you tap the application icon, it starts up and then shuts down again immediately. Tech support is, so far, silent on this issue.

So ... maybe I'll catch up with those elusive pages once they respond to my query. Until then I stick to Pocket Notepad, and the tedious tabbing/formatting method.
