Short Scenes with music

Hi,

Remember in "The Naked Gun", where Frank Drebin is disguised on the baseball field at the end of the movie?

Music plays and there are some short scenes. The movie switches between this scenes, like the one where Drebin has a bigger vacuum cleaner after every switch to this short scene.

How you write that in a script?

My main char, "The Inconspicuous Man" has a big problem: He just found out that since some time no one really takes notice of him. He's trying in the city at a few places, every short scene has it's own location there. I want to switch between this locations and scenes while "The Invisible Man" from Queen is playing.

Hope, you understand what i mean :D

Are you talking about a montage?

RE: Short Scenes with music

Yeah, a montage.

The easiest way would be to write an action line, something like:

MONTAGE - INCONSPICUOUS MAN

We see a MONTAGE of The Inconspicuous Man in the city trying to make himself noticed. He waves in people's faces. He steals people's dinner from an outdoor cafe. He jumps up and down and flails his arms about in a spastic motion. It's all no good. He fails to make any impression whatsoever. While this is going on "The Invisible Man" by Queen plays on the soundtrack.

If you want to break this down into each individual set-up, I guess you can, but everything I've read suggests that you write the minimum possible in your script to describe action and leave the actual shot set-ups to the director. In fact, even this paragraph I wrote is a bit wordy, but that's just me. But you are summarizing 1-3 minutes of the movie there in one paragraph.

This is the kind of thing where (if you have creative talent) some of the bits could even be improvised on set during filming (if you're lucky enough to get a Will Ferrell or Jim Carrey type carrying the film).

Sounds like fun, hope you finish it.

RE: Short Scenes with music

Hello

A montage! Thank you very much!
I can imagine it's called the same in my native language.

So as short as possible, that sounds ok for me.

Thank you for your good words!
