Funny or not funny?

I was just wondering if this is actually funny (it is to me, and I think my Mum agrees, but that doesn't exactly cover a large audience. LOL)

Just ignore the directions in the panel descriptions, focus on the dialogue:

GREAT BEING

EGO sum Ultimate Res! Volo affor insolent humanus quisnam pallium meus Phylacterium quod misused is!

3: Sorceror, CU, UP-R, confused.

SORCEROR

Uh.. parlez-vous Francé?

4: Jen, FW-R, confused.

JEN

Sorceror, you can speak French??

5: Great Being, frowning, DW (R slightly).

GREAT BEING

Oui, monsieur.

6: Sorceror, L, confused.

SORCEROR

What’d he say?

7: Jen, FW-R, wide-eyed.

JEN

I thought you could speak French!

8: Sorceror, L, CU, worried/panic.

SORCEROR

I can’t, I can only say that one line and I don’t know what it means!

Page 116

1: Sorceror, CU, UP-R, scared.

SORCEROR

Uh... me no speak Englais?

2: Jen, CU, UP-FW-R, shocked.

JEN

No, NO, we ONLY speak English!

RE: Funny or not funny?

A bit tough for me to work through the parts that weren't dialogue, which I know you said to ignore, but I wasn't sure I'd get the gist without reading it all.

Anyway, I think it's kinda funny. The bit about not being able to actually speak French; just the one thing and you're lost... it's pretty close to this exchange from Family Guy:

BRIAN: Me... llamo... es... Brian.
MEXICAN GUY: Hey, that was pretty good. But you don't have to say "es". Just, "Me llamo Brian."
BRIAN: You speak English?
MEXICAN GUY: Nah. Just that one sentence, plus this one as explanation.
BRIAN: You're kidding, right?
MEXICAN GUY: Que?

I'd say it's probably too close to feel original to anyone who's heard the Family Guy version before, and I'd also say that, for me, the Family Guy version was funnier, just because it raises the level of absurdity.

However, the last line, the idea of correcting "We don't speak English" with "No, no. We ONLY speak English," is hilarious to me. Again, I'm not sure I got enough of a context to fully understand what's going on and who's saying what, but I love that particular exchange.

RE: Funny or not funny?

LOL Yeah, I've seen lots of Family Guy, including that episode. Hilarious. And I wasn't even thinking of it when I wrote my scene. Bizarre.

Thanks for the feedback. ^.^ Yeah, it's sort of an obscure scene, difficult to explain. But glad you like the ending, at the very least. :D Once I draw it then it'll make a lot more sense (all of the bizarre acronyms in the panel descriptions are describing the directions people are looking in, the kind of angle they're being viewed on etc. meaning that the drawn version will help get rid of any confusion)

^.^

RE: Funny or not funny?

Well I laughed out loud and I've only watched Family Guy once and it wasn't that episode so thumbs up here. I guess the only thing was that it wasn't quite as funny the second time I read it.
