Your Parents, Friends, and Teachers...

Have you told them? Are they doing it, too? What do they think about your crazy ass endevour?

My mom is being almost too nice about it-she keeps sending me pictures of my main characters (or the actors they're based on) and today i got an email "Is your script in 12 pt courier new font? do you have a logline?"
YES, mom. STOP PLEASE.
But I'm glad she's involved. It makes me feel better.
My friends already think I'm weird, so to them it's just another strange thing the girl who writes is doing.

RE: Your Parents, Friends, and Teachers...

I wish my mom was supportive of my writing in general. If she were, I wouldn't mind if they didn't support Script Frenzy. My family completely thinks I'm crazy for doing another insane writing contest. I'm serious, they almost destroyed my computer during NaNo, but I prevailed! And won!

RE: Your Parents, Friends, and Teachers...

My family knows about it but don't really care. I tried to get extra credit from my English teacher for doing this but he said know. As for my friends, I got two of them to do it, but then they backed out, and my best friend is my official editor for Script Frenzy and NaNo. She loves it but is surprised I'm going so fast.

RE: Your Parents, Friends, and Teachers...

No, thank God. The last time they knew, I was informed I wouldn't be doing any extracurricular writing until further notice. Emotional troubles (to say the least) ensued.

My friends know, and they occasionally bring it up. It's not a big thing.

Senioritis -- Four men in a coffeeshop. They write a novel.
Echo Flux -- Peasant girl saves the world with SCIENCE!
(That was NaNo 07. Screnzy?)
Ballroom Blitz -- The kind of highly-meta play that gets written by a student in Tech Theatre.

RE: Your Parents, Friends, and Teachers...

My parents, on the whole, are pretty oblivious to the whole thing, but they do get somewhat concerned by how it's sucking up some valuable 'scholastic' time (for example, I told them yesterday I finished Act One, and though the folks were somewhat congratulatory, they told me to do more scholarships).

I've told a few friends (and made my myspace page into a boatload of promo materials) but they're mildly intrigued, at best.

My english teacher is quite supportive. We actually made the script a side-project for sixth period, so that's a major help (even though I write the most at midnight, usually). Problem is, the assignment point value is 45,000, and if my teacher doesn't dig it, I'm gonna fail the class. oh well.

RE: Your Parents, Friends, and Teachers...

I told my friends and tried to get them to do it, too, but they didn't want to (even though some of them did Nanowrimo with me...). One of my friends has promised to draw my script later (I'm doing Graphic novel).

... my parents are kind of used to the idea, since I did nanowrimo in November and this is somewhat similar.

RE: Your Parents, Friends, and Teachers...

My parents think I'm insane. They are totally unsupportive of my writing. They told me I should be writing my essay for the $1000 schollarship they are hoping for me to get. Meh, I can't wait til next year, when I'm hoping that at least a couple people at my high school will be doing screnzy.

RE: Your Parents, Friends, and Teachers...

Originally, I wasn't going to tell my parents (so they wouldn't bother me with constant updates) and only told my brother. But I didn't want my parents worrying about me spending so much time in my room at the computer, so I let them know.

They're really supportive because I want to write television as a career and they believe I can do it, so to them this is a step closer to achieving my dreams (as corny as that sounds).

But so my mom and dad understand this is an independent venture, I haven't let them read it or divulged any plot details. They get to read it in May.

I only mentioned it briefly to my friends, but once I edit it, I might maybe let them read the pilot during finals or something.

RE: Your Parents, Friends, and Teachers...

Oh dear. I was hoping I wouldn't be the odd one out.
I haven't told my parents and only one of my friends who is also pretty apathetic about the whole thing, resulting in me most likely not talking much to her at all until it's over.
Actually, pretty much nobody even knows that I write...excepting my Creative Writing teacher from last semester. I haven't even told her about it.
Is that bad? I'm just wondering.
I've had the problems with my parents being worried about what I've been doing too...I just said that it was this fatty extra credit project for history due at the end of the month =P

RE: Your Parents, Friends, and Teachers...

Haven't mentioned anything to my friends. Most would be supportive, probably, but they were all focused on school and exams - and now it's holidays, so we're hardly seeing each other. One, though, she has this way of saying 'fiction' in a derogatory way, and looking at me oddly for my obsession with it. That hurts.

I told my parents. Mum questioned my priorities, what with this being my final school year, where every exam counts towards my final mark (and whether I get into the uni course I want), but withdrew the comment when she realised I was getting through the pages fairly painlessly. I think her and dad both fine with it, but it's not really something that we're talking about.

Haven't mentioned it to any of my teachers. Mostly, English is just about essays, anyway, rather than creative writing. (This is for year 12, in NSW, Australia.) There's one subject, English Extension 2, where I get to write, but I'm supposed to be focusing on one 8000 word short story for the year, so I haven't mentioned to my teacher that I'm writing a 100 page script rather than working on my story....

RE: Your Parents, Friends, and Teachers...

My parents havent read my script, my teachers say that I had better not complain about too much homework, and one of my friends is reading avidly and calling me to tell me to write more :-)
