Final day write-in frenzy - 30 April

Announcing a final frenzy write-in on Wednesday April 30.

For those of us ...

  • who are natural procrastinators and finish everything at the last possible minute (shades of Uni assignments anyone?)
  • who don't have mothers calling up every other day to nag, "Why didn't you write? You never write" and need the company of others to peer-group-pressure us to get those thoughts down on paper
  • who are already flush with success, having conquered the page count, but wish to merrily look down upon those sad, little people still struggling with the behemoth, offer a word of encouragement, throw a condescending lolly and laugh, oh yes, laugh the laugh of the victorious.

When: the afternoon/evening/night of Wednesday 30 April (feel free to arrive and depart at any time)

Where: a flat in Pyrmont, a few minutes stroll from Darling Harbour or right on the route of the Metro Light Rail (tram)

Facilities: internet access & laser printer (for those last-minute proofs and submissions), two spare laptops, hot and cold running inspiration, hot and cold running perspiration

Entertainment: to crush the word count, see the deadline fall at your feet and hear the lamentation of the keyboard

Nibblies and drink: supplied except for alcohol, the devil's mead (ie BYOG)

RE: Final day write-in frenzy - 30 April

Seeing as how that's the night before opening night, I'm going out on a limb and ASSUMING that I'll have a dress rehearsal that night. Having said that, I am totally game for showing up late. Question being: how late am I allowed to show up? And can I sleep on a couch if "late" will mean that there won't be reasonable busses for me to get home? ;-)

Jean, yes please add this to the calendar.

Cass, you're welcome to turn up at any time before midnight - ie before the deadline! - and anyone is welcome to crash till the next morning.

I'd definitely love to come along! Thanks for hosting this Chie-Hoon, you are a peach!!! However I may have to leave kind of early unless I can winkle out of something in the evening (which at this stage it is quite possible that I will manage). :P Looking forward to seeing everyone there for a final bash! All the best 'till then and happy scripting. XOXO Celia.

RE: Final day write-in frenzy - 30 April

I should have PMed my address to everyone who said they were interested in coming, but if I forgot or it got lost in the ether, please let me know and I'll resend it.

I have a dentist's appointment that morning (*shudder*), but feel free to wander in (or out) at any time after about 1 pm.

See you then!

RE: Final day write-in frenzy - 30 April

Is there any free parking within walking (less than 30 mins) walking distance? I'd prefer to drive since I have to make sure I get home in time to get a decent nap in before 4am if I'm still doing the work I am now (else I'll prolly train it and rock up early/mid arvo.)

RE: Final day write-in frenzy - 30 April

Parking can be a bit of an issue around here.

My building has no visitors' parking spaces (unbelievable, huh) and unfortunately my own car space has been let out.

There's on-street parking, and during a weekday there'd probably be little problem in securing a spot, but unfortunately it is metered. I think it's about $2 an hour, but I could be wrong, ie it could be more, maybe even twice that. I can find out if you like.

There's probably something free within 30 minutes walk, but don't ask me where as I'm woefully ignorant about such matters. :-(

One possibility is the parking at the Fish Markets (just across the road). It's metered as well (not sure what the rate is) but you used to be able to exploit a little loophole where if you stayed there past the time that the parking guard went home (sometime during late afternoon/early evening) you didn't have to pay to get out, you could just drive out. But I'm not sure if that little exploit still exists. Ie, they might have changed things so that either you pay on your way in or they put barriers up to stop you from getting out. Or it might still work...

Sorry I can't provide any concrete help, but let me know if you want to research any of these options further.

RE: Final day write-in frenzy - 30 April

Incidentally, for everyone else ON THE VITAL TOPIC OF SUSTENANCE: I've stocked up on chocolate, chips, fruit, ice blocks, soft drinks and juices, so there's no need to bring any of these along unless you have special dietary requirements or particular favourites. On the other hand, there's almost no alcohol in the house, so it's BYO grog if you're so inclined.

In terms of hot food, there's some cafes within walking distance and after 5 pm, plenty of delivery options... though they're pretty much limited to pizza and Thai. Before 5pm there's a kebab/pide place that delivers.

Also, as mentioned earlier, I should have two spare laptops for people who don't want to lug their own along or who are laptop-less.
