How's everybody doing?

I noticed that there's not much conversation going on, and though I'm sure it's because you're all so busy on your scripts ;), I'm interested in how everyone's doing.

I am on page...5. I've actually never been this epic-ly behind on anything in my life, but I still have hope for it. Possibly. Maybe...? Adapting a novel is harder than I would have thought possible, and I'm crazy busy.

Yaaaaaay.

So, spill. How're you going?

RE: How's everybody doing?

Well, I'm at page 57. I started with 24 pages of a work in progress, so I've got 67 pages to go. A little behind, but I'll make it up this weekend. In any case, I've done more writing in the past two weeks than in the previous year. Joining Script Frenzy was the best idea I've had in a while.

Miri, you sound more mature than I was at your age. Your spelling and grammar are better than those of most adults. If you've got any kind of imagination to go with it -- and I'm sure you have -- then I bet you'll succeed splendidly.

RE: How's everybody doing?

Thank you so much!

I think my biggest challenge with Screnzy is harnessing that imagination into a carefully controlled format - I'm adapting my friend's NaNo from 2006. (She was my newbie buddy that year - weird to think she's a two-time winner now!) To adapt it, I have to have a good picture of the scenes, but keep to the original plan as faithfully as possible, while still having it flow as episodes.

I'll probably end up writing twelve pages a day for the last eight days or so. x) I've done it for drama class before (I'm always the group scriptwriter); it's not that hard if you HAVE to do it.

I have to say, Manuel, your logline sounds interesting, especially in light of my current TV obsession. Have you by any chance seen the show Death Note?

RE: How's everybody doing?

Is "Death Note" that anime about a notebook with the power to kill those whose names are written therein? (At least that's how it's described on www.imdb.com.) Nope; but that, in combination with The Ring and another movie the title of which I can't recall, makes me wonder if Japanese fantasists have some kind of obsession about prophetic death messages.

Well, last night I actually lost two pages, because I finally noticed I had exactly the same dialogue scene in two different places. So, I'm really going to have to buckle down this weekend and try to get ahead.

Keep at it, Miri. Adapting somebody else's novel sounds like quite a challenge. If you're taking drama class, that should help you get a good ear for dialogue. I know what you mean about harnessing one's imagination into controlled form. I'm trying to learn that at age 47. You can have a great idea or image in your head, but unless you learn to organize it into words, nobody else will get to experience it. Good luck!

XD I'm adapting a novel too! It's a pain in the ass, all right. I'm a little behind myself, but I'm sure if we both buckle down we'll get done on time. :) After all, we have the ultimate outlines!

RE: How's everybody doing?

I actually live in CT but spend a ton of time in Atlanta since my family's there. It's a little odd that I won't be down there at all this month but wanted to say hey anyway since I spent several weekends writing with the Atlanta crew for Nano. I have one scene left but it's a tricky one and I'm not so sure how I'll write it. Cheers.

Just wanted to say, I never end a sentence with a preposition unless I can't think of anything else to end it with. Also, I try never to unnecessarily split an infinitive.

RE: How's everybody doing?

Boy, am I behind. I've got all day to myself, which is unusual -- but so far various errands have taken up the time. It's mid-afternoon, but I'm finally settling in to work. Let's see -- I started with 24 pages of a work in progress. I need to hit 124. I'm at 62. So I need to write 62 more pages in twelve days, including today. That's over five pages a day.

My goal is to hit 80 pages by the end of this weekend. There's plenty left that needs to be written in my screenplay; just not sure how to do it. Trying not to feel hopeless here.

How's everybody else doing?

Edited to add: Make that 57 pages. Some editing and correcting of duplicated pages, and I just screwed myself out of 5 pages. But so help me God, I'm going to get my hundred pages by the end of April. I don't care if I have to sacrifice my cat to Moloch (been thinking of doing that anyway).

RE: How's everybody doing?

I can't believe I actually wrote "The End" on something finally! If anyone is working on the editing month in May I'll be in town third weekend and would love to do a write in or an edit in as the case may be.
