Winner>>>?

Is there a winner to this competition? can your screenplay be singled out? I heard that the script is just counted and you get some stupid certificate. Is there a reason for me to do this competition and have to juggle school with writing a script in a month when I can just be taking my time and churning out something actually decent?

RE: Winner>>>?

You're a winner if you finish. No one's script is singled out. The whole *point* of this is to prove to *yourself* that you can do it. And, mainly...

Fun!

So yes, the reward is "some stupid certificate." The true reward, my friend, is in your heart. *tear*

And that you walk away with a script. Most of us seem to 'put it off' until 'we have time' and the thing never gets written. Script Frenzy is just about getting words out and on the page. It's not about getting a masterpiece performed on stage and getting rich off it or anything ;) This is, I guess, about writing the draft that we've never 'had time' to 'get around to doing'.

RE: Winner>>>?

This really isn't a true competition; it's a self-challenge, wherein you challenge yourself to do something amazing in a month. The real prize is the script at the end. There's no way for there to be an overall winner, because no one reads the scripts. The verification is done by robot, and is on-your-honor.

RE: Winner>>>?

Ah, but for me, competing against yourself is the purest kind of competition there is.

I remember a quote (which I can't find) from some famous mountaineer. "What enemy have we conquered? None - except maybe ourselves."

Don't know if there's one this year, but I remember a thread on the NaNoWriMo site called "what have you got out of NaNoWriMo". I was amazed at the range of answers people gave.

I think therefore I am pretentious.

RE: Winner>>>?

You're of course competing against yourself. Me, I'm also duelling my archenemy, procrastination, for the right not to kick myself and the bragging rights to having achieved a goal I've longed for since about 1992. I'm not done with my script -- I have to edit it too, and then draw it -- but at least I can say I won the duel with myself.
