How much is too much description?

I have a lot of description--what the characters do, she gets up and walks to the door...that sort of stuff. But I don't have that much dialogue mostly because the main character is alone most of the time at the start.

I'm just wondering how to know when you have too much description and not enough dialogue?

RE: How much is too much description?

I guess it depends really on the characters. If your character is more of an actions person, less of a words person, there will naturally be blocks of description as to what he/she/it is doing, as opposed to more dialogue.

I am me just as you are he.

RE: How much is too much description?

In Script Frenzy, there's no such thing as "too much." If you're looking for reality, what works to get your script accepted...I guess you'll have to check out script writing blogs and books. AFTER the frenzy. :-)

But for now, be happy. Keep writing.

RE: How much is too much description?

It's good advice to just type away at this late stage of the game.

But to answer your question, you'd want no more than five lines in an action paragraph. Less is better. When you break them up think in terms of shots. Each paragraph tells the camera what to see.
