Donations noticably weak this year

I know, the economy is particularly crappy this year. So, not surprisingly donations are down as many of us tighten our belts. Charities and non-profit groups who rely on donations tend to suffer during times like these, so those of us who can afford donations, it's particularly important to do so, both here and in other venues that matter.

My gold ticket isn't posted yet, but I just made a $50 donation, and I encourage those of you who are able to do likewise. Even a $10 I'm sure would help. It looks like goal may be a long way off, though hopefully the last minute surge will come through. Even so, by this time last year and during the Nanowrimos, we're further along.

Buy a shirt!

I got mine. It's a great way to make a donation. Frenzy gets money and you get new fancy duds.

Kudos to you Scott for being generous. Karma thanks you.

So true!

We need to keep Script Frenzy alive. I want to come back next year. I donated early, but think I'll browse the store again. Maybe there's some reward there. Because I WROTE 100 PAGES!!!

Let's all kick in whatever bit we can.

RE: Donations noticably weak this year

I bought a travel mug a couple weeks ago.

No golden ticket, but I love to flash the Script Frenzy logo at people and talk about my script, and it feels good knowing I helped *somehow*!

RE: Donations noticably weak this year

Also, don't forget that even if you can't afford to donate (Lord, I work for them and can't!) you can always use Goodsearch to do it... it has raised us quite a bit for NaNoWriMo!

"Use Goodsearch.com. This Yahoo-powered search engine donates a penny to the charity of your choice for every search you do. Before you start searching just put "The Office of Letters and Light" in the "Who do you Goodsearch for?" box. That will lock in Script Frenzy's parent nonprofit as the recipient of all your searches from that point forward.

Goodsearch also offers an installable toolbar to let you search directly from your browser. There are versions for users with Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Safari. You can download and learn more about the toolbar here, and you can go here to troubleshoot.

This costs nothing, and if every Script Frenzy participant switched to Goodsearch for April, we could pay for much of our Young Writers Program through Goodsearch funds alone. "

RE: Donations noticably weak this year

now that is a good idea. All searches in a given time period going to one charity. I like it. I'm saving this post so I can use this.

RE: Donations

Yeah, the economy's been tough, but who am I kidding? I can throw in some cash in return for having a finished first draft in a month.

My Gold Ticket should be forthcoming.

RE: Donations noticably weak this year

I signed up at First Giving http://www.firstgiving.com/ this year and asked nearly 50 friends and family to sponsor my screenplay. Even though only 5 were able to sponsor me, that's $250 that wouldn't have been raised if I hadn't asked. Something to think about for next year perhaps, would be a friendly fundraising competition between the various regions. The First Giving site allows you to set up team as well as individual fundraising pages.

Just a thought...

Peace & Love,
SB

RE: Donations noticably weak this year

well geeze that's a good one too.

You know what I'm just going to have to meddle a bit with the ideas I have for projects and such and set them up much like this idea sponsoring me to achieve certain tasks. I mean I wrote over 100,000 words (by the end of tonight that's what it will be anyway) as a challenge to myself. I've told family about it. and if I'd known about either of these two sites I could have used them both. Any research done could have been done before the start and during the month through that first one and I could have gotten somebody to sponsor me I'm sure. well now I know I'll have to do something about this.
