any writing groups meeting in sydney at the moment?

Hi all, I signed up to the frenzy this year but missed it because of a conflicting feature shoot. Just wondering if an ongoing writing group was formed. I'm currently working a script and would like to meet with other writers in the sydney area to get/give feedback.

If anyone knows of any groups or the like please let me know

TGIO party!

Yes folks, it's over. Not too sure about the 'thank god' part though. This month has seriously rocked.

There will be a party though, as has been mentioned in other threads. Everyone is welcome, whether you hit your 100 pages or not. Frankly, I'm immensely proud of everyone who got as far as starting.

So, party is this Saturday, kicking off around 2:00pm-ish. It's at my house, which does mean coming all the way out to Blacktown, but I am happy to pick up anyone from the train station if they need it.

From there, we'll be moving on to cheer on Cass in The Witches of Eastwick, as mentioned here: http://www.scriptfrenzy.org/eng/node/2006802 . Don't forget to book your ticket if you're joining us!

Beyond Script Frenzy! 2008 - monthly write-ins

Hi, everyone!

At yesterday's TGIO Party, I was talking with Cass and Jean about monthly write-ins (this was before Colleen and Laura got there).

We tossed around a few ideas, and here's what we came up with.

WHEN
The afternoon of the second Saturday of each month

WHERE
Optional. Instead of going to the one venue all of the time, we could rotate.

A suitable venue would ideally include most or all of the following:
* powerpoints for our laptops, and permission to use them
* space
* good food and drink at reasonable prices
* parking and good access to public transport

Star Bar worked well. Jean also suggested the Metro cafe at Woolworths in the city.

As well, we don't have to be restricted to Sydney - for example, with Laura being from down south, we now have an excuse to visit Wollongong and its surrounding environs. If we ever want to do Wollonong, a possible venue down there is the City Diggers in the centre of the city (I play Monopoly once a month there with friends, and it's a nice place).

How about 14 June somewhere down in Wollongong, to tie in with the 24-hour-play that Laura will be madly involved in on that day?

Announcing a final frenzy write-in on Wednesday April 30.

For those of us ...

who are natural procrastinators and finish everything at the last possible minute (shades of Uni assignments anyone?)
who don't have mothers calling up every other day to nag, "Why didn't you write? You never write" and need the company of others to peer-group-pressure us to get those thoughts down on paper
who are already flush with success, having conquered the page count, but wish to merrily look down upon those sad, little people still struggling with the behemoth, offer a word of encouragement, throw a condescending lolly and laugh, oh yes, laugh the laugh of the victorious.

When: the afternoon/evening/night of Wednesday 30 April (feel free to arrive and depart at any time)

Where: a flat in Pyrmont, a few minutes stroll from Darling Harbour or right on the route of the Metro Light Rail (tram)

Facilities: internet access & laser printer (for those last-minute proofs and submissions), two spare laptops, hot and cold running inspiration, hot and cold running perspiration

Entertainment: to crush the word count, see the deadline fall at your feet and hear the lamentation of the keyboard

Nibblies and drink: supplied except for alcohol, the devil's mead (ie BYOG)

Star Bar write-ins on the 12th and 19th

Writing can be hard, especially 100 pages in 30 days - but you don't have to do it alone.

That's why there will be two Sydney SF! 2008 write-ins at Star Bar (the former Planet Hollywood).

If you've never been to a write-in before, they're good fun. They're both an opportunity to give yourself writing time, and also to encourage and help your fellow SF!ers and, in turn, be encouraged and helped by them.

So, if you want to experience the joys of a write-in for the first time or again, details are as follows.

WHEN
* Saturday 12 April, 12:15pm-6pm
* Saturday 19 April, 12:15pm-6pm

WHERE
Star Bar (formerly Planet Hollywood)
600 George Street (across the road from Greater Union)

If you're unfamiliar with Star Bar:
* it has good reasonably-priced food, and the kitchen is open 12pm-10pm
* there's lots of room
* it's quite central, and very close to Town Hall Station

To find us:
1) Walk in through the front doors of Star Bar
2) Go up the stairs
3) Walk ahead to the Rotunda, a large enclosed area
4) Walk around the Rotunda to the right and look straight ahead towards the main bar
5) Look up and to the right, and you'll see a black Mad Max car hanging from the ceiling
6) Underneath the Mad Max car is an alcove with a large table - that's where we'll be

Minors are allowed, but they must be supervised at all times and definitely cannot purchase and/or consume alcohol.

* Yourself
* Whatever you write with - powerboards will be provided for laptops and other electronic devices

Hey, mates --

How's it going? Morale okay? Page count okay? How are you feeling about the opus itself?

Me: morale pretty good (I blush to say I'm finding it easier to crank out four or five pages a day than I did 1,667 words for NaNo). Page count is at the expected magnitude, with a little bit of wiggle room in case anything prevents me writing for a day or so. The opus? I'm disgusted with it. I was trying to write a comedy and it keeps warping into a drama. A preachy, earnest drama. Blech!!! There are way, WAY too many of them in the world. Maybe I can lighten it up on the rewrites next month.

Meet-up Saturday 5 April

Hey guys

So following the success of our first meet-up last week, we'll be doing the same thing again this weekend.

We'll do it slightly differently this time, in that we'll meet actually in the coffee shop this time. We got a table last weekend more by luck than anything else, so I'll get there a bit earlier and try and stake out some territory. I'll also stick a sign on the table to make it easily identifiable.

So, the plan is:

Date: Saturday, 5 April
Time: 1:30pm
Venue: Gloria Jean's Coffee Shop - upstairs from Borders Bookshop in Pitt Street Mall.

Meet-up this weekend

Okay, so Easter is safely over with, and it's time to look forward. Specifically, to this weekend, when we'll be having our kick-off meet-up!

Venue: Borders Bookshop - Pitt St Mall
Date: Sunday, 30 March
Time: 2:00pm

The last time I went to Borders, there was a coffee shop above it. The aim will be to meet outside at 2:00 and adjourn upstairs.

If the coffee shop has closed, we'll mosey along someplace else, but Borders is a good landmark to meet at. I'll be wearing something recognisable (to be decided soon, I'll let you know).

Hi there Sydney (and surrounding areas)! Are we all ready for Script Frenzy 2008?

For those of you who are new around here, welcome! If you've done NaNo before you know basically what to expect from SF. If not, you're in for a fun ride.

For those of you who were here last year, welcome back! You may remember me as your somewhat inefficient ML from 2007. I do apologise for the lack of organisation last year. I only found out about SF about three days before it began, which didn't leave a lot of time to arrange things. Then I lost my job, and my marriage was on the rocks, causing me to pretty much disappear mid-month.

Not this year! This year I have IDEAS! And PLANS! Are you scared yet?

We'll be starting off with a kick-off meet-up over the weekend of 29-30 March. There will be meet-ups or write-ins every weekend in April. I'd like to try and organise at least a couple of mid-week events as well, but that will be based on whether you guys want them.

In the meantime, these are your forums! Go wild, get to know each other, have fun!
