Adaptations
Adaptation from a myth
So everyone knows it, mythology is in. It's 'cool'. Percy Jack and the Olympians. 300. The Immortals. Clash of the Titans. Wrath of the Titans. I Remember the Titans. (<- joking) Disney's Hercules. 'Swords and sandals.' Mighty gods and battle cries along with hidden meanings.
What's not to like about it all?
So who else is adapting a myth to a script? Heck, maybe even a real Greco-Roman war story (300, anyone?). Adding in a ferocious monster like the chimera, or the Minotaur?
__________________________How to be inspired and allusioned, but not to adapt.
I am not sure if this is on the right forum but anyway here it goes. I am doing a action-fantasy manga inspired by Alice through the Looking Glass. Now, I know this is a highly adapted series but I need some advice on how to take insipration and not just adapt the book. To add to the confusion, I do not want the story to only referance the book, but to have some parallels. Sorry this is confusing but I would really appreciate some help.
__________________________Slow Start
I'm adapting, "Emma," by Jane Austen for the stage. I'm off to a slow start due to a bad cold.
Usually when I do an adaptation I don't refer to the book ever. For some reason, I'm finding myself wanting to reference the dialogue. I've been fighting the urge, but am considering giving in for the first few scenes in order to capture the rhythm of Austen's characters.
This is the first time I've been an adaptation not set in this century.
Anyone else adapting Jane Austen?
Cyn

This is going to be an ENORMOUS script!!
Am adapating my 283 page story for SF this year, with the thought I could condense quite a bit in the early parts and expand on scenes desperately needing a bit of attention in the later parts.
Only... here I am with a whopping 33 pages of script and only on p34 of the novel!!! Argh! At this rate my script will rival War & Peace (book AND movie!).
I've tried to condense scenes, but esp in the early sections everything seems so essential to plot and character establishment. Plus it's writing like a dream.. the dialogue just slips into place with hardly a complaint.

Adapting Book Series to TV Series
I am a four-time NaNo-er and a one-time Screnzier. Last year I partnered for an original graphic novel (not my wisest descision), but this year I'm doing a book series adaptation to a TV series. Any suggestions? It's a youth novel and would be a youth series..kind of like Redwall, if anyone's ever seen that.

What's up with that?

Adapting a series of songs~
Okay, if any of you are fans of Vocaloid, you're probably familiar with the songs Daughter of Evil and Servant of Evil. Well, it seems like this is pretty much common knowledge now, but you may not know that it's a part of a larger series of songs called the Evillous Chronicals. The songs go in this order:
Moonlit Bear
Abandoned on a Moonlit Night
Recollective Orgel
Chrono Story
The Madness of Duke Venomania
Flower Plateau
Conchita
The Tailor on Enbizaka
TwiRight Prank
Daughter of Evil
Servant of Evil
Daughter of White
Wooden Girl
Message of Regret
"Our story has let go of the hands of the Devil and God and now it walks on its own"
-Elluka Clockworker, Capriccio Farce
NaNoWriMo 2011: Won!
Screnzy 2011: At 10%
Life is like a refrigerator. I don't know how or why, but it sounds cool.
Anyone else writing a parody/spoof?
I'm writing a parody of Lord of the Rings (The entire trilogy) and just wondered if anyone else had undertaken a similar task!

Winner: NaNo 2011- "The Bunker"
Lots of fictional characters were harmed during the writing.
Adapting a Really Long Book?
I'm already writing a musical, but I'm thinking about either doubling up or at least preparing a little for next year to do an adaption of Susan Kay's Phantom, which I think would be a phenomonal movie/stage play.
However, Phantom happens to be well over 400 pages, and there's a lot of really important information that's hard to cut out, as well as a lot of really brilliant moments. Anyone else having the same problem?
Adapting from Koji Suzuki
I hadn't realized how little the movie The Ring was like the book. Too bad since it's a terrific book. Encouraged by my son, I'm writing a script for the book The Ring and I'm changing very little. Most of the names are Americanized and the locale is in the states but the rest should change little. Not sure what will come of the sfript but I'll be having fun writing it.
