The Beat

Wheeeew!

We did it!

Congratulations, writer!

My fingers are a bit tired, the glow of my laptop screen is stuck on the back of my eyelids, and I'm pretty sure my forearms have bruises from being smushed up against the edge of my kitchen table. All these things make me happy and giddy because they are the marks of a successful 100-page sprint (which I already miss)!

I am so very proud of everyone! We'll release the official count next week, but the preliminary number of winners this year is… (drum roll, please… ) 1273! Wow!

It is just hours shy of a month since you said farewell to your friends and family, and hello to your story. Your supporters are anxiously gathering, awaiting your return. When they welcome you back there will be one question everyone asks: What was your page count? There is no getting around it.

You know what to do: Get a page count that will knock ‘em dead.

All of us here are cheering you on. (We're sorry if the noise is distracting, but we just can't help ourselves.)

You are almost there!

Dear Scriptwriter,

Greetings! Chris Baty, Executive Director of the Office of Letters of Light here. Happy almost-end of Script Frenzy!

As you wrap up your script, I wanted to ask two favors of you.

Firstly, if you got something out of Script Frenzy, please give something back. The Office of Letters and Light judges the success of the Frenzy in a lot of ways, including the number of writers who sign up, the percentage of folks who win, and the heaps of great feedback we get from emails, MLs, and our end-of-the-event survey.

But one of the biggest ways we know that Script Frenzy has been worthwhile is that participants like you come away from it so inspired that you make a small tax-deductible donation to help us cover costs. So far this year, only 2.42% of our participants have chipped in.

Calvin: Last-minute panic.

Dear Script Frenzy Writer,

There are times for quitting, turning back, and giving in. This is not one of those times.

We have less than a week left before the curtain closes on Script Frenzy 2009. No matter what your page count, these last few days (including the weekend!) are for you and your script.

The world needs your story. But, more importantly, you need your story.

Even if you are on page one, I urge you to write like mad right now. If you don't cross the finish line this year, get as close to it as super-humanly possible. There is nothing like the last-minute sprint toward a deadline to create an adrenaline rush that will give you

Thank you everyone who donated and bought goodies so far! We crossed the 20K mark and now have two beautifully illuminated bars in the box office. Aren't they so pretty?

If you haven't donated yet, please do! We have a heap of costs to cover and we depend on participant donations. Donating is an easy way to become a Script Frenzy hero!

And be a hero to your script by backing it up right now. Send yourself a copy, save it to a jump drive, print a copy and put it in your safety deposit box. Do whatever you need to do to keep a copy safe just in case your computer gets eaten by hungry monsters.

Racing to catch up,
Jen

We are half way!

I can't believe how fast April goes. There might need to be a study of the speed of time during Script Frenzy. It should be performed by NASA. (I originally wrote NANA. She could do the study, but I'm not sure I'd trust the results!)

To be on track, you should have 50 pages done. If you are behind, you still have plenty of time to catch up. (I have yet to be on track at the midpoint and I've always managed to win!)

No matter what page you are on right now, take a moment to celebrate that you've been a writer for 15 days. I am so proud of us!

I'm off to the Bay Area Midway Dinner!

Happy and proud,
Jen

Thank you so much to everyone who has chipped in over the past few weeks!
We heart you!

We still have a ways to go! It takes more than love to get Script Frenzy frenzied every year. There are loads of operating costs (servers, programmers, printing, rent, etc.), and we depend on your support.

Please make a tax-deductible donation today and help us light up another two bars on our beautiful box office!

  • Make a donation.
  • Get the goods!
  • Broke? Get sponsored!
  • You'll love your golden ticket!

We ran out of our stickers faster than you can say, "You Can't Do That On Television!" But, they are back!

One sticker comes in the donor goodie packages for $25 donations and higher. Or, you can buy the "Five for Five" Sticker Bundle!

Brand your notebooks, bike, laptop, and more with this die-cut, waterproof, and oh-so-snazzy sticker, now available in a pack of five! Durable and decorative, these stickers are made to weather the wear and tear of a scriptwriter's lifestyle for up to five years.

Some of you may be having issues editing your page count and user profile. Dan is doing the bug-squashing equivalent of "crossing the streams" now. (Ghostbusters, anyone?)

In the meantime, you might want to try a fix that has been working for most people.
