An Excerpt from Degeneration (working title)
INT. HALLWAY - ALEX'S DORM ROOM - DAY Rebecca KNOCKS on the door. ALEX (O.S.) Go away. Rebecca opens the door and walks in. Her friend ALEXANDRA CARSON, age 21, is sitting at her desk. She has dirty blond hair and is extremely tall. She looks up when Rebecca walks in. ALEX You're not very good at this whole listening thing. REBECCA We've known that for quite some time. ALEX This is true. REBECCA Where's Heather? ALEX Doing laundry. REBECCA Why? She's going home tomorrow. ALEX Some people don't like letting their parents do all their work for them. REBECCA (shrugging) Suit yourself. ALEX I thought you were leaving today. REBECCA (taking a sip of coffee) I am, but my flight doesn't leave for another few hours, and I couldn't stand being in that room any longer. ALEX Brat giving you a hard time again? REBECCA They're just so irritating! This time they were making out for five minutes because Brad was going to be gone for two. I could have gone to his room, convinced his roommate-- whom I don't know--to let me in, made the tea, and brought it down to him, and they'd still have been sitting there kissing. Alex laughs. ALEX You know, if you can't even stand hearing people kiss, what are you planning to do when it comes time for the bride and groom to kiss? REBECCA Close my eyes? ALEX You're going to close your eyes at your own aunt's wedding? REBECCA Is there something wrong with that? ALEX (shaking her head) No. Just a little weird, is all. REBECCA You don't know my family. That might be the sanest thing that happens all weekend.
