An Excerpt from Azrael
PAGE ONE PANEL 1 A quiet underground sewer tunnel, dank, dark and damp. It’s night, so it will be dark, with the faint yellow/orange light coming down through drain covers from the street lights above. A trickle of water runs slowly down the middle of the vast tunnel, the odd ordinary size insect (probably cockroaches) crawling up the wall and roof of the tunnel. One rat ambling slowly down the tunnel. No dialogue. PANEL 2 Slightly more closely zoomed in on the sewer, amount of insects increasing. Have to be English insects, a selection of cockroaches, stag beetles, earwigs, centipedes, millipedes, earthworms, mealworms, the odd spider, etc. The insects are gathering together, regardless of species, as if gathering for a common cause. No dialogue. PANEL 3 Again zooming in a little closer still, as the insects crawling on the ceiling of the tunnel (as well as all around the surface of the tunnel) are heading up a smaller tunnel (a rainwater drain, that goes up to the surface with a little light shining down). No dialogue. PANEL 4 Zoomed in closer, you can see the grid above, and the streetlight shining in, lighting up the tunnel as the insects strive towards the light. Some insects seem to be getting a little bigger the closer to the exit they get. No dialogue. PANEL 5 Zoomed in close to a rainwater drain (in a dark alley lit by a streetlight, though at the moment you can only see the drain). Insects emerging from the rainwater drain, as the insects are emerging, such as a cockroach, they are appearing at the size of a small rat! No dialogue. PAGE TWO PANEL 1 Zooming out, we can now see more of the tarmac floor, the base of the streetlight, and the back end of a car, only seeing to the top of the tyre. Some insects are now reaching half the height of the tyre when walking on all six legs. No dialogue. PANEL 2 Big picture. We can now see the whole of the alley, a couple of cars, the streetlight, and the small drain at the back, with all the insects pouring out of it. Some insects now covering half the bonnet of one of the cars.
