An Excerpt from James
(Why does it make everything centered?) EXT. LONDON. NIGHT. Establishing shot. SUPERIMPOSE: INT. WHITEHALL. CORRIDOR. NIGHT. JAMES, 40’s, paranoid, flustered, and frenzied, runs through the corridor. He stumbles and braces himself against the walls, but continues. People in the corridor rush to get out of his way. He pushes through a door at the end of the corridor, keeps running. ROBERT, 20’s, panicked and desperate, clutching a paper in his hand, runs through the corridor, following James. ROBERT GEORGE, 20’s, enters the corridor, sees Robert. GEORGE People in the corridor try to stop Robert, but he fights them off and keeps running. Robert pushes through the same door James exited, keeps running. INT. WHITEHALL. STAIRWELL. NIGHT. James runs down the stairs, leaning heavily on the wall and the railing. He stumbles a little at the bottom, but continues. Robert enters the stairwell, just in time to see James push through a door at the bottom. Robert runs down the stairs, taking them two at a time, until he reaches the bottom and exits through the same door. INT. WHITEHALL. ENTRYWAY. NIGHT. James enters, runs past doors to other rooms, through to large exit doors, runs out. Robert enters, looks around. There are other doors, but he chooses the exit doors James used, runs out. EXT. WHITEHALL. NIGHT. James runs out of the building, down a gravel path, then veers off down a grassy hill towards a river. He picks up speed as he goes downhill. Robert runs out of the building, looks around. ROBERT He sees James running down the hill. EXT. RIVERBANK. NIGHT. A riverbank, with Whitehall visible in the background. James runs down to the riverbank, THROWS a small, silver RING in the river. Robert runs down to the riverbank, still clutching the paper. He grabs James, turns him around so they face each other. Robert takes James’ hands, looks at them. ROBERT James is defiant. JAMES Robert SLAPS James, making him stagger back. ROBERT James stares stonily at Robert. |
