Behind the cordon pathologist Don Mackenzie straightens up and glares at Jardine and Hall.
MACKENZIE
You'll understand that all I can give you is a preliminary estimate based on what little reliable data I have managed to secure, and there is bound to be -
JARDINE
(interrupting)
Take a guess, Don. That's all I'm asking.
MACKENZIE
(huffily)
I would estimate that she's been lying here no more than three hours, four tops. That is assuming she was killed here. Which I refuse to speculate about at this point except to say that so far I've seen nothing that suggests otherwise. But that is not a formal opinion!
JARDINE
(to self)
God forbid.
(to Mackenzie)
But you will confirm that she is, in fact, dead?
MACKENZIE
(testily)
Chief Inspector, she's had her head removed from her body. Of course she's dead. Any first-year student could see that.
