MAD HATTER
Tell her why you were in a prison.
March Hare looks at Alice. He is so close to her, Alice can feel his breath on her face and smell the alcohol in it.
March Hare turns his head away.
MARCH HARE
It was one cold day in March when - I lost my sense of reality.
ALICE
(curiously but with an alarmed tone)
What did you do?
March Hare gasps and sobs and returns to his seat.
MAD HATTER
He shot a few people. Took his shotgun, went out on the street and blew their brains out. Except for the young lady. Her, he dug her eyes out with a bread knife.
ALICE
(looks at March Hare)
That is awful! How could the king let you go for that?
MARCH HARE
(lighting up a cigarette)
He was a merciful man, didn't ask much. Guess he liked my pretty face.
ALICE
Guessing isn't good enough...
MARCH HARE
(smirk)
Clever girl.
