Gomez exits the building, followed by Detective Jensen Witherspoon, a caucasian male in his mid fifties wearing a rummpled, brown sportcoat and slacks. Gomez is walking briskly, carrying a number of plastic evidence bags toward his van.
Witherspoon
You're removing evidence from my crime scene.
GOMEZ
Now it's your crime scene. That's strange. Didn't seem like your crime scene when I got here.
WITHERSPOON
You take that evidence any farther-
GOMEZ
What? You going to arrest me? Shoot me? What?
EXT. NIGHT - NILES BOULEVARD - CONTINUED
Bradford puts his half-eaten burger down on the hood of his car.
BRADFORD
Guess dinner's over.
Bradford strides over to Gomez and Witherspoon, who are nose-to-nose and ready to start throwing punches.
BRADFORD
Hey, hey hey-we have one dead guy already. Come on now.
WITHERSPOON
Look, Detective. I don't know how they do things across the bay, but we have procedures here.
BRADFORD
Yeah, they just take a while. I guess it's ok though. Guy can't get any deader.
Witherspoon turns and glares at Bradford.
WITHERSPOON
How many murders have you worked today, detective?
BRADFORD
Only this one.
WITHERSPOON
This is my fourth. Do us all a favor and go back across the bridge where it's safe.
Witherspoon turns back to Gomez and snatches the evidence bags from his hands. Gomez doesn't resist. Witherspoon glares at Bradford and then stalks off. Bradford watches him for a moment, and then follows.
BRADFORD
Detective.
Witherspoon keeps moving toward his car.
BRADFORD
Detective!
Witherspoon stops and turns around. Bradford approaches him.
BRADFORD
I wanted to apologize. Look, we're all on the same side. And I think we're both looking for the same killer. You're right. This is your crime scene, your evidence.
WITHERSPOON
I have a lot to do. What do you want?
BRADFORD
Just an ID on the victim.
WITHERSPOON
Guy's name was Richard Chu. Pretty sure he was the owner. His name is all over the documents in the office.
BRADFORD
Thanks. Whatever I find out, I'll send it over.
WITHERSPOON
Yeah.
