READ BEFORE POSTING: What NOT to post here

This forum is for sharing links to your favorite resources and informational sites.

What it's NOT for is to promote your own personal projects, even free ones. It's also not an appropriate place to post referral links for sites you don't own. Such posts will be removed, or moved to a more appropriate forum.

If you'd like to promote your own website, you are welcome to do so in the Marketing, Self Promo & Emporium forum. Be sure and read the guidelines before posting!

Facebook App for screenplay writers

New Facebook App "THE PRODUCER" for screenplay submissions!

Tired of endless submissions and script contests? We know there are not enough production companies in the world to look at all of the original screenplays from unknown writers. Any call for submissions is likely to crash an e-mail server or overload the mailman, and it is so easy to get lost in the crowd.

BBC Writers Room

The BBC has a microsite of potentially useful material at Writers Room. Amongst their gifts there are advice of writing and sample scripts.

At the moment there appears to be a problem with parts of the site as downloads don't appear to be working. So anyone, like me, who wants to check on the requirements of the format can't. (I've reported the fault so by the time you read this it may be sorted.)

Little Details - Nailing the Facts in Your Script

The livejournal community Little Details has helped me quite often. It's a place where writers post questions about topics in their stories. Whether you're writing nonfiction, fiction, historical fiction, screenplays/plays/tv scripts or fanfiction, it doesn't matter! If you have a question, ask it!

It's much like the Reference Desk here at ScriptFrenzy. It's very extensive since it was created in 2004. They have a great tags system.

101 Best Screenplays

Want to see what professional writers consider the best of the best?

The Writers' Guild of America has this list on their website; the 101 best screenplays. Not sure I agree with everything on the list, but it's a great cross-section of film styles and genres, and a lot of great must-see films on there. I've seen about 70 of the 101, and most of my favorite movies are there.

If you haven't already heard about it, simplyscripts.com is a great website, where you can find scripts in pretty much any format, including screenplays, plays and radio scripts.

You can also post scripts if you want and get some constructive feedback from other scriptwriters around the world.

It really is a great site to browse around.

The Myth of the 3 Act Structure

Apologies in advance if this is the wrong area for this sort of thing.

I recently discovered Film Crit Hulk's articles and essays and they all have something interesting to say.

Whether or not you agree with him that the Three Act structure is over simplification and a distraction, the article makes you think about what makes an act break significant and what is actually driving your plot.

Here's to totally not procrastinating but thinking about story structure! :D

How to Write a Movie in 21 Days

I was cleaning out my attic the other yesterday and came across this book, "How to Write a Movie in 21 Days: The Inner Movie Method" by Viki King and remembered just how useful it was to me when I started screenwriting. It shows you how to get a first draft down in 7 days! Amazon has it in stock for less than $11, and I'd seriously recommend it to anyone who's doing Script Frenzy this year (or just wants to learn to write scripts quickly).

ScriptBuddy.com

I'm surprised this isn't already listed, but here it is! I used to use this in high school when I didn't have an expensive writing program to put on my expensive laptop. ;)
It's called ScriptBuddy.com and it's easy to use.
It's free, for ONE script. If you want to save and store MORE than just ONE, you have to buy a membership, but it's affordable, so don't worry! ><
