| Logline | When a fairy discovers that the one she loves has forgotten her, she tries to take matters in her own hands with disastrous results. |
Synopsis:
Trellis, a fairy of Everwood, lived the hum-drum life of a simple weaver until she met and fell in love with the valiant and charming warrior, Kingsley. But tragedy strikes when Kingsley's exploration group is slaughtered by daifs in the outer realm. Trellis' life is pointless until several years later when a fairy from that group returns with the news that Kingsley also survived. Encouraged by her younger brother, Trellis goes into the outer realm (though it is now forbidden) to find her beloved and bring him home.
The daifs (fairies whose crimes were punished by exile and who gain power by drinking blood/eating flesh) are much more powerful than she anticipated. The rumor is that if a daif drinks fairy blood, they will become more powerful than the fairies. She is hunted, nearly killed, and almost gives up hope. But two human high school girls (step-sisters) unwittingly help her by distracting her starving attacker long enough for her to have him dragged away by vines. The sisters, Joelle and Karina, continue to aid Trellis by giving her lodging and searching for Kingsley. It is Joelle, who hates the fairy's disruption of her predictable and orderly life, who discovers Kingsley working at a coffee shop. When Trellis joyfully goes there to rescue him, she learns that he has lost all recollection of fairies, magic, who he is... and her. Worse, not only does he not believe her, but he's in love with a woman, Rebekah.
Hurt and angry, but still in love with him, Trellis decides to return to Everwood to petition the king to allow fairy soldiers to forcibly bring Kingsley home. She is sure that once he crosses the threshold to their world, he will remember everything and be hers again. Plus, she worries that the daifs will figure out what he is even if he doesn't. She gives an amulet her brother made her to Joelle who was attacked by a daif because her in order to protect the girl until she returns. She asks her to watch over Kingsley and swears her to secrecy on all that transpired since their meeting. The less the girl appears to know, the less danger she should be in. Trellis leaves.
Now protected, Joelle is ready to return to a life of normalcy. But once the eyes have been opened to the fae realm it's hard to be blind again. Joelle is confronted by a new student who does not believe that she bought her necklace at a vintage store. He claims to have made the necklace and accuses her of murder. Karina learns that he is Torrian, a fairy and Trellis' brother. Torrian went after his sister after learning how dangerous the outer realm had become. He has no idea she has returned home and Joelle cannot tell him as her lips are involuntarily sealed when the subject comes up. Because of the amulet, Torrian can't tell that she's under his sister's spell and sets about making her life a living hell in a cruel attempt to force her to give up the necklace so he can use it to find Trellis.
Meanwhile, Trellis is before the king and queen of the Everwood fairies. She requests their help in bringing Kingsley home. But instead of desiring all their people's safety, the monarchs are furious that she dared break the law by entering the outer realm. She's thrown into the dungeon and the king decrees that her brother be executed if he returns.
In the outer realm, Torrian is desperate. He's tried fairy charm, wrath, and magic, but nothing moves the stubborn Joelle. He's enlisted the help of Karina (who follows him like a lovesick puppy), an elf, and a troll. But to no avail. After a daif attacks him and then Joelle stabs him with an iron knife, poisoning him, he turns to one last resort. He buys a death potion from a witch. One drop will make a victim violently ill, two will put them into a sleep so deep it's nearly death, and three will kill them. He promises Joelle that he will leave forever if she attends the fall dance with him. She doesn't believe him, but in case he's telling the truth, she agrees. At the dance, Torrian secretly adds two drops of the potion to Joelle's drink. A fae amulet can only be taken off by the wearer or another if the wearer is dead. He hopes near death will be enough to get it.
Joelle is exhausted with the tug of war and the magic from the amulet has made her stronger. When they're alone, she rips off the necklace and gives it to him. Her tongue is loosed and she tells him everything. Suddenly feeling very ill, she runs off to the restroom. The truth forces Torrian to re-evaluate everything that's transpired. He realizes that he ruined the one thing his dear sister wanted--her secret kept and the protection of this girl. He goes to the restroom to check on Joelle, but the place is destroyed and the girl gone. Daifs have taken her.
In the dungeon in Everwood, Trellis has a secret visitor--Chara, the fairy who knew that Kingsley was alive when she returned herself. She's seen a daif drink a dead fairy; seen it's power afterward. She's terrified of what would happen if they got their hands on fresh blood--the blood of either Torrian or Kingsley. They must find the fairies and make their way to another fairy realm or seek protection with the elfs or charmints. Chara and her husband lead Trellis on a dangerous escape from the dungeon, the palace, and the walled capital. They make their way to the outer realm.
Torrian blames Kingsley for everything that's happened. He finds him at the cafe where he works. Kingsley doesn't appear too surprised when Torrian confronts him. He says he's been thinking about what Trellis told him and he remembers some of his fairy life. He can't believe that it was possible to forget Trellis, the love of his life. He asks to see Torrian's amulet bracelet. Though he doesn't feel comfortable doing it, Torrian hands it to him as his judgment has completely off ever since he stepped into the outer realm. Since Kingsley's memory is coming back that means some power must be resurfacing, too. Torrian asks him to help him find Joelle. If his sister returns and the girl's still missing, she'll kill him. Kingsley agrees. As he hands the bracelet back, he hesitates. Torrian is hit in the head from behind. He slumps to the floor. A daif smiles at Kingsley and gathers Torrian in his arms. Another exits the kitchen congratulating Kingsley on helping the FBI catch this criminal. The daif has blood on his chin. When questioned, the daif shrugs, was hungry. They leave with the unconscious fairy and the bracelet. Kingsley walks into the kitchen and finds his fiancee, Rebekah, dead on the floor, blood drained from her body.
As he mourns over her, there's a sound behind him. It's a third daif. The daif tells him there are orders not to take him yet, but she can't resist. She only wants a taste. Kingsley tries to fight her, but she's much stronger and faster. His time away from the fae realm and his memory loss has made him slow and weak.
And then--
Hahahaha! Like I'm really going to give away the ending! Can Kingsley save himself or is he as doomed as Rebekah? Where is Joelle? What will become of Torrian? Can Trellis make it out of Everwood? Do I even know the answers to these questions?!?!?
Actually, yes, I do! The answer is 26! Whooo! ;)
