An Excerpt from Old Wives Tales
The DOCTOR stands and continues at quite a high volume.
DOCTOR
Because humanity were the first to dream, to think big, to want more; and that's where they stepped in. All they had to do is think up some ridiculous notion about three wishes and people followed them everywhere.
MARTHA is trying to hide as the DOCTOR takes centre-stage.
DOCTOR
The only problem was that these Genies were shallow shells really. Just pure malice with no intelligence.
There's a low growl from nearby.
DOCTOR
(continuing) I think they must have based their entire look on Silent Movie Villains.
He looks thoughtful for a second.
DOCTOR
(to himself) Not unlike someone else I know.
From behind the counter, the earlier ASSISTANT steps away from the machine. In his eyes there is a pulsing blue glow.
MARTHA
DOCTOR!
The ASSISTANT runs snarling at the DOCTOR, whilst the DOCTOR just stands there.
DOCTOR
(to the ASSISTANT) NO! I DENY YOU!
The ASSISTANT's snarls suddenly change into a whimper and his body dissolves away, leaving his uniform behind.
BEAT
DOCTOR
Now, he probably wished for a day off. (turns to look at the shocked customers) Did any of you?
As one, the CUSTOMERS grab their things and run for the door.
