GRANDFATHER
(Reading from book)
... And the instant Oísin set his foot on the ground, he felt the years and years that he had spent away from his home catch up with him. His vision grew dim, bones grew weak, and suddenly he was a very old man standing in the ruins of what was once his father’s beautiful city.
LITTLE BOY
(Fidgeting, a little whiny)
Is that it? He died, just like that? He can’t just leave like that, he’s the hero, Grandpa!
GRANDFATHER
(closing the book and tucking it under his arm, then sighing)
I know it can’t hold a candle to your movies and video games and all, but these are the stories I grew up with. Plus, the hero doesn't always end up with the princess and the crown and live happily ever after...
