An Excerpt from Milk
BEL: Ben. Do you know where Elanora is? BEN: Who? BEL: Elanora Bentley. BEN: Elaine. Elaine Bentley. BEL: Oh. Bel looks down at her notebook. BEL: Oh. I'm sorry. It's Elaine is it? Bel scratches out "Elanora" in her notebook and writes in "Elaine". BEL: Do you know where she is? BEN: She went out. For milk, I think. Do you want a cup of tea? HELEN: No thanks. Look, Ben, Elaine had an accident walking down the street. She tripped over and fell onto the metal railing on the corner of Bushbeck Road. Ben, by the time the ambulance arrived it was already too late. Ben, Elaine died. Ben finishes his ice cream and wraps the stick up in the wrapper and puts it on the table. BEN: Are you mental? HELEN: No, Ben. She's dead. BEN: Oh. HELEN: Ben, we need to ask you some questions. BEN: Okay. |
